Agreement No. 5558
1. PROJECT UNDERSTANDING
Based on the review performed on the available drawings, it is our understanding that the project involves
the filling and abandonment of an existing unused 28"storm drain beneath Eucalyptus Drive. The project
will include the placement of concrete plugs at the ends of the abandoned pipe and the filling of the north-
south section of the pipe with Controlled Low Strength Material. At least two sections of the pipe at angled
locations will be removed. The contractor may opt to break up the middle long section of pipe to facilitate
the filling of the pipe. The streets in the areas of the excavations for pipe removal will need to be compacted
and repaved. Our scope will include the following:
• Attend Pre-construction Meeting and attend field meetings as necessary
• Provide field monitoring, testing and inspection for the backfill compaction
• Perform laboratory tests on subgrade, base and asphalt materials
• Perform inspection and testing for concrete plugs at the ends of the abandoned pipe.
• Prepare and submit daily inspection reports.
• Provide Final Compaction Reports
During construction,GAI will provide geotechnical and materials inspection and testing and will perform
continuous and periodic inspections. Our on-site presence will be based on the direction we receive from
the project authorities, i.e. the City.
2. ESTIMATED BUDGET AND BREAKDOWN
The following table provides cost breakdown and our estimate for the outlined scope. The plans and
specifications were used to estimate the times and testing required. For the purposes of this estimate we
assumed that the contractor would elect to fill the main length of pipe in 100 foot sections, and that the
compaction and backfill of the portions of pipe that were removed would take 6 hours per area for subgrade
compaction and base placement, with 1.5 hours drive time and with two 6-hour days for asphalt placement.
The actual amount of time that would be needed would be determined by the contractors schedule and
methods. The unit rates are included in the Table. The hourly rates for inspectors and technicans are based
on prevailing wage rates. The master fee schedule for our company is provided under the Appendix"A"
to this submital. The total estimated cost of our services is $13,750. Our services are on an on-call basis
and the estimated budject may be subject to change.
