PROTECT UNDERSTANDING AND APPROACH
The existing 10-inch water mains on Pine Avenue from Lomita Street to Center Street, and
Center Street from Pine Avenue to Mariposa Avenue were (constructed circa 1930) have a leak
and maintenance history and are in need of replacement. The new water mains will be designed
parallel to the existing water mains, a total distance of approximately 1,400 lineal feet, and the
existing water mains will be abandoned in place after the new water mains are put into service
and the services are all switched over to the new water mains.

Alignment of new water mains shown in re,d
Due to the elevation and varying slopes of both Pine Avenue and Center Street, we will perform
a topographic survey of the roadways and provide elevation data to properly profile the new
water mains. As required by the profile of the new water mains due to the prevailing street
grades, as well as profile changes to avoid conflicts with existing utilities; blow-offs or drains at
low points and air and vacuum release valves at high points will be included in the design to
allow the proper flushing, filling, and operation of the new water mains.
