AGENDA DESCRIPTION:
Consideration and possible action authorizing the City Manager to execute a purchase order in
a form as approved by the City Attorney and to allow the City to "piggyback" with the
Metropolitan Water District (MWD) to retrofit two City vehicles in order to comply with
California Air Resources Board (ARB) regulations. (Fiscal Impact = $30,000)
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
(1) Authorize the City Manager to execute a purchase order in a form as approved by the
City Attorney to "piggyback" on the existing MWD contract with Ironman Parts & Services to
install diesel particulate filters on two City vehicles to comply with ARB regulations; and,
(2) Alternatively, discuss and take other action related to this item.
BACKGROUND & DISCUSSION:
On December 8, 2005 the California Air Resources Board (ARB) adopted Title 13, California
Code of Regulations, sections 2022 and 2022.1 to reduce diesel particulate matter emissions
from fleets operated by public agencies and utilities. Under these regulations, all public
agencies and utilities must apply the Best Available Control Technology (BACT) to on -road
diesel- fueled vehicles weighing over 14,000 pounds according to a specified implementation
schedule. Seven City vehicles are affected under the new regulations.
