Education and /or Exoenence
Any combination of education and /or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities
necessary for satisfactory job performance Example combinations include possession of a Bachelor's
Degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Processing,
Public or Business Administration, or a closely related field and certification in one or more technical support
areas such as network administration and management, network cabling and or programing of network
equipment and three years of increasingly responsible microcomputer and networking experience in an
environment comparable to that of the City of El Segundo Additional qualifying experience may be
substituted for the educational and certification requirements on a year- for -year basis Prior city, county, or
other public sector experience is preferred
Knowleedoe. Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of modern electronic processing theory, principles, and practices, technical support requirements
for microcomputer workstations, file servers, routers, telephone systems, video systems and the network of
cables, routers and hubs which interconnect them, municipal organization, programs, operations and
services, computer networking, design and operation of computer hardware and software systems and
networked computing environments including troubleshooting problems, computer programs and application
packages used in a municipal environment, report writing and effective written communication practices
Ability to provide effective operational and technical support for the City's microcomputer workstations, file
servers, routers, telephone systems, and the network of cables, routers and hubs which interconnect them,
provide immediate response and assistance to all levels of City staff, coordinate repair and technical support
with the appropriate resource in the Information Systems Division, maintain a high level of user satisfaction
and develop positive and supportive interpersonal relations, troubleshoot personal computer hardware and
software malfunctions, install personal computer hardware and software, reason both logically and creatively,
work both independently and on project teams, demonstrate initiative, communicate effectively, orally and in
writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels in the City
organization, provide both formal and informal training and support to system users, establish plans and
priorities for automation services, understand and apply complex manuals and documents related to computer
hardware and software, respond to computer system problems and emergencies during off duty hours,
promote high customer service standards in the performance of duties
Special Reguirements
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving
record at time of appointment
