PRESIDENT LOS ANGELES 14, CALIF. LAND AGENT November 29, 1948 640 -9 -1 To the - Honorable City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California Gentlemen: In June 1942 our Company sold a portion of the SEA of the NE /4 of Sec, 7 to meet the needs of Douglas Aircraft Company for expansion of its manufactur- ing facilities. Title was conveyed to Defense Plant Corporation, the govern- mental agency which financed the expansion program. However, all of the nego- tiations with us were handled by Douglas Aircraft Company. Agreeable with an understanding, our deed conveying the property contained a proviso reserving unto Santa Fe land Improvement Company the right to in- clude in an easement to the City of E1 Segundo the west 75 feet of the land, for public street purposes. We agreeing to donate an additional 75 feet of width out of our adjoining land, so as to provide for dedication of this southerly continuation of Douglas St., 150 feet wide. This section of the street down to the quarter section line was thereupon constructed and extensively paved, at no cost to us, nor to the City. Upon completion of that work and in harmony with the above mentioned under- standing, in October 1942 our Company submitted to you an easement for the street extension. It developed that the only thing standing in the way of acceptance by your Honorable Body was the presence of gates which were being maintained by Douglas Aircraft Company, in accordance with security regulations then in effect, access on the part of the public being restricted thereby. However, such regulations have long since been relaxed, the gates have been removed and the thoroughfare opened to normal use by the public. We therefore respectfully resubmit for acceptance by your Honorable Body an easement covering this hitherto undedicated portion of the street, full 150 feet in width, southerly to the quarter section line (our south property line). Similar easements heretofore given to the City by us account for the exist- ing public street northerly to Imperial Highway. ,r Page Two Santa Fe Land Improvement Co. City Council — E1 Segundo November 29, 1948 The 8 inch cast iron water main and appurtenances, for which we gave the City a bill of sale in 1942, extends northerly throughout the full length of the por- tion of the street covered by the enclosed easement. Coincident with acceptance of the easement, Southern California Edison Com- pany's license for the electric power line along west side of the street, will be terminated by notice from us and the matter from then on will be between the Edison Company and the City of E1 Segundo. We have sold to North American Aviation, Inc., just lately, a large area along west side of the street, part of the frontage being on the southerly ex- tension covered by the enclosed easement. It is to be the site of North Ameri- cants central materiel depot and that company has under construction its steel frame warehouse buildings. The North American people have told us that it is vital to them that the full length of their property have street frontage on a street of record. Inquiries in connection with the balance of our frontage, south of the North American parcel, lead us to expect that before very long one or more industries will be located there. We are very optimistic about the future of this industrial area and our people are active in seeking to locate reputable and substantial industrial concerns that will be a credit to the City of E1 Segundo. We respectfully solicit your favorable consideration and trust the enclosed easement will be found in satisfactory form. Yours very truly, SANTA FE IMPROVEMENT COMPANY
