We consider each project individually characteristic and have taken into consideration those unique qualities of the site and your expectations in preparing our statement of qualifications and proposed fee schedule. NUVIS represents a new vision and a commitment to providing innovative and comprehensive design solutions for governmental agencies, private developers, and design professionals. We are committed to effectively managing and producing quality design solutions that express our knowledge, experience, value- orientation, talents, and client confidence with integrity, understanding and creativity. We are strong proponents of participatory planning and design for recreational facilities and sports complexes from a few thousand dollars to multi - million dollar construction budgets, believing that the goals and direction of a project should evolve from a process which provides for the expression of concerns from those involved with and affected by the particular project and associated built or natural environment. The NUVIS team's similar experience, familiarity with the area, and full service design capabilities clearly indicate our desire to partner with the City on this exciting project. lily We understand the key issues to be resolved for effective delivery of documents that meet stringent schedules, ensure smooth agency plan checking, permitting, and regulatory acceptance; and contributes to a successful stakeholder implementation. NUVIS influences design for educational facilities, residential community living, public spaces, natural experiences, urban sustainability, and transportation corridors. Our goal is to create inspired outdoor rooms that exhibit a sense of place, opportunity for interaction, and dramatic results from texture, form, color, and pattern. NUVIS is celebrating its 34th anniversary with a current professional staff of 30 employees with offices in Costa Mesa, San Ramon, Bakersfield, and Ventura County California, as well an office in Las Vegas, Nevada. In each office, the design studio is divided into teams to more efficiently handle the workload. Due to the size and volume of our business, NUVIS is constantly looking for new and challenging projects that reflect our firm's capabilities, interests, and marketing strategies. Since 1971, NUVIS has provided a wide range of services from site planning through conceptuals and construction documents to field observation for a number of golf - related facilities for both public agencies and private developers. In particular, country clubs, course remodeling, and renovation of 9 -, 18 -, 27 -, and 36 -hole courses; practice ranges; and teaching centers. Projects of note include planting design for the clubhouse and 18 -holes at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose with Ted Robinson for Shea Homes; Club de Golf Palo Fierro in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico; planting design for the clubhouse and 18 -holes at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Gilroy for Shapell Industries with Golfplan and Johnny Miller; and planting design for Castle & Cooke's 36 -hole jack Nicklaus Coyote Creek Golf Club in San Jose, California (recent home to the Siebel Senior PGA Classic) and their new clubhouse in Saddle Creek in Copperopolis. Also, NUVIS recently revitalized golf cart paths and irrigation for Griffith /Roosevelt Golf Course, Hansen Dam Golf Course, and Balboa, Encino, and Woodley golf courses for the City of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Department. NUVIS is a strong proponent of participatory planning and design, believing that the goals and direction of a project should evolve from a process which provides for expression of concerns and values of those involved and affected by the project. We enjoy the process of working with the community and its various organizations and groups to build a consensus of ideas that encourages interaction opportunities for a variety of age and user groups. We believe that one of the keys to the success of this project is effective and thorough communication between the City and design team to identify and resolve issues, thus allowing the necessary services to proceed quickly and efficiently. We prefer to build a s e n 35 4 4•.: 1 'partnering' relationship with our project team - the client, associated review agencies, and subconsultants. Regular meetings will provide a continuum to receive information, clarify input, inform staff of progress and direction, generate information, and allow the City the opportunity to review and comment on concepts and design formulation. Creative problem solving evolves from maintaining communication, building consensus, and identifying issues before they become problems. We encourage interactive participation of involved parties to allow for appropriate orientation and awareness of project site potential and constraints, obtaining concurrence on schedules, team effort conflict resolution, adaptability, flexibility, responsiveness, and looking at problems as opportunities. NUVIS operates using state -of- the -art technology. Our CAD documents are developed using AutoCAD 2004 and we also retain the ability to produce documents in Microstation. We operate via Windows XP utilizing Microsoft Office 2000, Microsoft Project, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop 7, Quark, as well as other up -to -date software for our computer related needs. NUVIS expends a fair amount of capital annually on updating our hardware /network systems and software programs for administration, graphics, and computer aided design and drafting. While operating with state -of- the -art technology, NUVIS recognized the need to maintain a library of software versions to ensure the ability to read' and'open' computerized files produced in earlier versions of the same software to enable continuity to a project regardless of the date(s) of contract. Our corporate office, Northern California office, and satellite offices are all networked % together via DSL lines, communication software (between remote and local servers), and an FTP site allow for collaboration by project participants and maximum work efficiency. It is also the practice of the office to maintain current cellular communication mean, email and synching of PDA's for contact with project participants while away from the physical office space. We are a team of focused and dedicated team players with thirty-four years of experience working with and for governmental agencies. Our professionals represent conscientious individuals whose primary goal in developing design solutions is in translating technical expertise into creative and sensitive design for functional and aesthetic environments. Our team's greatest assets include: • employees who have worked together on previous and similar projects; • a high level of interest in this renovation project; • technical preparation of design and construction documents utilizing AutoCAD; • established reputation and proven project experience; • performance consistent with professional skill and care to meet mutually agreed upon submittal dates and budgets; and • commitment to timely responsiveness. References: Herewith A u 354 4 - .-"ql Quality Control Program: Due to the fact that NUVIS has had several state and federal projects, our Quality Control Assurance Process (QC /AP) has been in place for several years and is included in the new employee orientation packet. The QC /AP program for NUVIS involves a minimum of two individuals: an originator /backchecker, and a checker /verifier. The originator provides design information to the drafter or CADD technician, who then submits applicable documents — first for plan check, then after corrections are made, to the checker. The checker is responsible for r reviewing drawings and calculations, independent of originator or project manager, for technical adequacy, conformance to applicable standards /formats and consistency with corresponding calculations. Quantity calculations are prepared by two separate individuals then averaged by the project manager. The process is easily tracked and visually verified by performance auditors. Construction industry experience includes: data collection, surveying, and civil design with expertise in construction survey, base mapping, construction phasing and management. Extensive experience in high profile projects, requiring coordination with some of the leading design firms and individuals in the industry. Matt has been the Caddy Master for the Kraft Nabisco Championship (KNC), formerly the Nabisco Dinah Shore, for the last twenty years. The KNC is the first Major Tournament for Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) of the season. NORTON SIMON MUSEUM Pasadena, California Principal in Charge: The project was a remodel of the building and the addition of a sculpture garden, pond, and new entry court. INCLEDON KIRK ENGINEERS prepared grading plans for the sculpture garden and entry court, and coordinated with the landscape architect and architect for a tearoom to be added later. The Norton Simon Museum is often seen on New Year's Day as Rose Parade floats start their trip down Colorado Boulevard. UNIVERSAL CENTER DRIVE CIRCULATION IMPROVEMENTS Universal City, California Project Leader: The project involved feasibility analysis, detailed budget, schedule, bidding assistance, and design of circulation improvements and infrastructure for the main guest entrance to Universal Studios Hollywood. The project objective was to eliminate traffic backing up onto the 101 Freeway during peak times, and to provide an entrance statement to the property. The facilities determined to meet the objective included: a vehicle bridge, pedestrian bridge, helix ramp addition to an existing parking structure, main toll facility, secondary toll facility, exit roadway system, and landscape of the entrance area. The landscaping was designed to make the "Welcome Statement" using native plants. The project configuration required the relocation of a City of Los Angeles DWP 16" water main, without interruption of service. The construction phasing plans were also prepared to maintain maximum vehicle capacity during peak season. The design phase required the coordination and direction of the design consultant team. Construction cost $13M. JURASSIC PARK ATTRACTION Universal City, California Project Manager: The project was a water ride attraction, featuring a waterfall, two lagoons with a 20 -foot difference in elevation, and five support and show buildings. The goal of the design was to make the guests feel like they are in a jungle environment. Alternative site analysis, preliminary construction estimates, value engineering analysis, and utility impact studies were prepared. The ride is situated on a hillside and required demolition and relocation of historic studio buildings. The grading operations for removal of non - engineered fill and retaining wall construction were phased to maintain tram access through the site until the service road was completed. The service road was required to facilitate truck traffic from the studio entrance to the backlot. The project required the relocation of the main domestic water, fire water, electrical and fiberoptic communication systems for the Universal Studios Hollywood property. An additional City of Los Angeles DWP domestic water connection was installed to mitigate the pressure losses caused by the large flows required by the project. All of the affected utilities are aligned in the new service road that serves as the main transportation and utility corridor for the entire studio. The project was considered a "design assist" and not a design build due to the size and complexity of the facilities being constructed. Construction cost over $100M. 0 3544.,;: During the past twelve years Sweeney & Associates, Inc. has completed over 3,000 irrigation projects in California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii and the United States as well as several international projects.
