ORDINANCE 1043ORDINANCE NO. 1043 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 5.16.250 OF CHAPTER 5.16 OF THE EL SEGUNDO MUNICIPAL CODE WHICH SECTION RELATES TO INSURANCE AND PERMITS FOR TAXICABS AND VEHICLES FOR HIRE. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 5.16.250 of Chapter 5.16 of the E1 Segundo Municipal Code is amended to read as follows: 5.16.250 OPERATION PERMIT - INSURANCE. Before any permit required by Section 5.16.230 is issued for any vehicle defined in Section 5.16.010, the owner shall be required to file with the City and there- after keep in full force and effect evidence of in- surance. Evidence of insurance shall consist of one of the following: (1) A policy of insurance or a certifi- cate of insurance in such form as the City Attorney may deem proper, and executed by an insurance company approved by the City Manager, insuring the public against any loss or damage that may result to any person or property from the operation of the vehicles; provided, that the minimum amount of recovery in the policy of insurance specified shall be not less than the following sum: Personal Injury $100,000.00 $300,000.00 Each person Each Occurrence Property Damage $50,000.00 Each Occurrence (2) File with the City Council a policy of insurance or a certificate of insurance or other document different from the document required in paragraph (1) hereof, but which document the City Council approves as providing adequate protection to the public. (3) A certificate of self- insurance issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles of the State of California pursuant to Sec- tion 16053 of the Vehicle Code of the State of California together with such financial statements and certificates of insurance that are necessary to establish to the City Council's satisfaction reasonable ability to respond to the minimum recoveries hereto- fore required for permittee to carry insurance. Such certificates and financial statements when approved by the City Council shall constitute compliance with the requirements of this section. 5=+61 5. ;6N (4) File with the Police Chief a document or documents which establishes to the satisfaction of the Police Chief that the permittee is licensed in another jurisdiction and that said other jurisdiction's requirements will assure that the permittee is adequately insured. It is unlawful for any permittee to operate or cause to be operated any vehicle without providing one of the protections required by paragraphs (I), (2), (3) and (4), hereof. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall become effective at midnight on the thirtieth day from and after the date of the final passage and adoption thereof. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this ordinance; shall cause the same to be entered in the book of original ordinances of said city; shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the records of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted; and shall within fifteen days after the passage and adoption thereof, cause the same to be published once in the E1 Segundo Herald, a weekly newspaper of general circulation, published and circulated within said City of E1 Segundo and which is hereby designated for that purpose.
