ORDINANCE 779ORDINANCE NO. 779 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING CHAPTER 16.24 OF THE "EL SEGUNDO MUNICIPAL CODE" WHICH SAID CHAPTER RELATES TO BILLBOARDS AND SIGNS. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 16.24.070 of Chapter 16.24 of the "El Segundo Municipal Code" is amended to read as follows: "16.24.070 PROJECTION AND CLEARANCE. Signs may project over a public street, public sidewalk or build- ing line a distance as determined by the clearance of the bottoms thereof above the level of the sidewalk or grade im- mediately below, as follows: Clearance from eight feet to ten feet, one foot project - tion, and above eight feet, for each additional two -foot clear- ance, an additional one -foot projection; provided that no struc- ture shall have a projection of more than five feet; and provi- ded further that a projecting sign built above and in connection with a marquee may have such a projection of five feet without clearance between sign and marquee; and provided further that no structure shall project beyond a line two feet behind the curb line, regardless of clearance above grade. Projecting signs attached to a building shall be of incom- bustible materials or of not less than one -hour fire - resistive construction, as specified in Chapter 43 of the Uniform Build- ing Code. " SECTION 2. This ordinance shall become effective at mid- night on the thirtieth day from and after the final passage and adoption thereof. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Ordinance; shall cause the same to be entered in the book of original ordinances of said city; shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the records of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted; and shall, within fifteen days after the passage and adoption thereof, cause the same to be published once in the E1 Segundo Herald, a weekly newspaper of general circulation, published and circulated within said City of El Segundo, and which is hereby designated for that purpose.
