ORDINANCE NO. 658
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING "THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, 1958," BY
AMENDING SECTIONS 10. 190 10. 21 AND 10. 23 OF
THE ELECTRICAL CODE REGULATIONS THERE-
OF AND REPEALING ARTICLE IV, SECTIONS 27. 39
THROUGH 27.63 OF SAID CODE RELATING TO EXCA-
VATIONS AND FILLS.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALI-
FORNIA, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That "Chapter 10" of "The Code of the City of
El Segundo, California, 1958, " is amended as follows:
(A) Section 10. 19, Item 1 is amended and Item 30 is added to read as
follows:
"1. For issuing permits ............... without light fixtures $2.00
with light fixtures 2.50
30. Supplementary permits may be issued without the payment
of the $2. 00 permit fee when additional work is to be per-
formed on a project for which there is an active electrical
permit........ .. ..... ..... ... .. .. ........ 1.00
plus the standard charge for each item installed. "
(B) Section 10. 21 is amended to read as follows:
"SEC. 10. 21. INSTALLATION OF WIRING -- GENERALLY.
All wiring shall be installed in rigid metal conduit.
EXCEPTION:
(a) Electrical metallic tubing may be used where it is not sub-
ject to mechanical injury and on walls behind or above work
benches; where exposed on an open wall, it must be kept a
minimum of 6 feet above the floor level, however, it may
run vertically to a lower point on the wall, terminating in
an outlet box or switch.
(b) Concealed flexible metal conduit, where otherwise permit-
ted, may be used in walls, attics, and under raised floors.
(c) Nonconcealed flexible metal conduit may be installed in
garages of residential buildings where protected against
mechanical injury. "
(C) Section 10. 23 is amended by deleting the last sentence and adding the
following:
"A new service, as required by Section 10. 25, shall be installed
when new work increases the service requirements above the
capacity of the existing service. The provisions of this paragraph
shall not require the removal or replacement of existing wiring
which was legally installed, except under the conditions above, or
when it has been determined that such wiring has become hazardous
or where the occupancy has been changed to a type that would have
required a different wiring system. "
SECTION 2. That Sections 27. 39 through 27. 63, inclusive,
of "Article IV. Excavation and Fills" of Chapter 27 of said Code, are
hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall become effective at
midnight on the thirtieth day from and after the date of the final passage
and adoption thereof.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage
and adoption of this Ordinance; shall cause the same to be entered in the
book of original ordinances of said city; shall make a minute of the passage
and adoption thereof in the records of the meeting at which the same is
passed and adopted; and shall, within fifteen days after the passage and
adoption thereof, cause the same to be published once in the El Segundo
Herald, a weekly newspaper of general circulation, published and circu-
lated within said City of El Segundo, and which is hereby designated for
that purpose.
