ORDINANCE 596ORDINANCE NO. 596 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 507 (THE COMPREHENSIVE ZONING ORDINANCE) OF SAID CITY WITH REGARD TO INTRUSIONS INTO REQUIRED YARDS. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALI- FORNIA, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That Section 1513 of Ordinance No. 507 (The Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance) of the City of El Segundo, California, shall be, and the same is hereby, amended so as to read as follows: "SEC. 1513. PERMITTED INTRUSIONS INTO REQUIRED YARDS. A porte - cochere may be placed over a driveway in the front twenty (20) feet of a side yard providing such structure is not more than one (1) story in height, is unenclosed on three sides, and is entirely open except for the necessary supporting columns and reasonable architectural features. "The following intrusions may project two (2) feet into re- quired yards, provided the required side yards shall not be re- duced to less than three (3) feet in width: "(1) Cornices, belt courses, sills, eaves, or similar architectural features; it is further provided, however, eaves may project six (6) inches into any side yard which is required to have three (3) feet in width. "(2) Fireplace structures not wider than eight (8) feet measured in the general direction of the wall of which it is a part. "(3) Uncovered porches and platforms which do not ex- tend above the floor level of the first floor, provided they may extend into a required front yard not more than thirty (30) inches. "(4) Planting boxes or masonry planters not exceeding forty -two (42) inches in height. "(5) Guard railings for safety protection around ramps. " SECTION 2. That this ordinance shall become effective at midnight on the thirtieth day from and after the final passage and adop- tion thereof. SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the pass- age and adoption of this ordinance; shall cause the same to be entered in the book of original ordinances of said city; shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the records of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted; and shall, within fifteen days after the -1- passage and adoption thereof, cause the same to be published once in the El Segundo Herald, a weekly newspaper of general circulation, pub- lished and circulated within said City of El Segundo, and which is here- by designated for that purpose.
