ORDINANCE 360ORDINANCE NO. 360
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, PROHIBITING DOGS FROM! BEING
OR RUNNING AT LARGE V,TTHIN SAID CITY,
EXCEPT ON LEASH.
The people of the City of E1 Segundo, California,
do ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That notwithstanding any provision or
provisions of any other ordinance or ordinances of the City
of E1 Segundo, California, no person owning or having charge,
custody, possession or control of any dog shall (and it shall
be unlawful for any person to) cause, permit or allow the
same to be, or run at large in or upon any highway, street,
lane, alley, court, or other public place, or in or upon any
private property or premises other than those of the person
owning or having charge, custody, possession or control of
such dog within the City of E1 Segundo, California, unless
such dog be restrained by a substantial leash not to exceed
six feet in length and is in charge, custody, possession or
control of a competent person.
SECTION 2. Any person violating any of the pro-
visions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor
and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine not
to exceed Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00), or by imprisonment
in the City Jail of the City of E1 Segundo, California, or in
the County Jail of the County of Los Angeles, California, as
the committing magistrate may direct, for a period of not to
exceed three (3) months, or by both such fine and imprison-
ment in the discretion of the Court.
SECTION 3. That the Mayor of said City shall sign
this ordinance and the City Clerk shall attest the same.

Said City Clerk shall further certify to the passage and
adoption thereof by the electors of said municipal cor-
poration; shall enter the same in the book of original
ordinances of said City; shall make a minute of such
passage and adoption thereof by the electors of said City,
in the official records of the proceedings of the City
Council of said City; and shall, after such adoption, cause
this ordinance to be published once in the E1 Segundo Herald,
a weekly newspaper of general circulation, published and cir-
culated within said City and which is hereby designated for
that purpose.
SECTION 4. That as provided in Section 1715 of
the Elections Code of the State of California, as amended,
if a majority of the voters voting on this ordinance vote
in its favor, this ordinance shall become a valid and bind-
ing ordinance of the City of E1 Segundo, and shall be con-
sidered as adopted upon the date that the vote thereon is
declared by the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County,
California (the Canvassing Board for said election), and
shall go into effect ten (10) days thereafter.
Passed, approved and adopted by the people of the
City of El Segundo, California, at the Consolidated Special
Municipal Election held in said City on Tuesday, the 8th day
of November, 1949.

ordinance, being Ordinance No. 360, was duly and regularly
passed, approved and adopted by the electors of the City of
E1 Segundo, California, at the Consolidated Special Municipal
Election held in said City on Tuesday, the 8th day of Ncv ember,
1949, and that it was so passed and adopted by the following
vote at said election, to -wit:
"YFS ", or, in favor of the adoption
and becoming effective of
said ordinance 1488 Votes
"NO ", or, not in favor of the
adoption and becoming effective
of said ordinance 688 Votes
and that, therefore, more than a majority of the electors
voting upon the question of the adoption of said ordinance
having voted in favor thereof, the said ordinance shall accord-
ingly become effective according to its terms and as provided
by law.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto subscribed my
