ORDINANCE NO. 356
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 313
( THE TRAFFIC ORDINAT,:CE) OF SAID CITY,
BY ADDING A NEW SECTION, TO BE DESIGNATED
AS "SECTION 2.1," TO ARTICLE XVIII OF
SAID ORDINANCE.
The City Council of the City of El Segundo,
California, does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That ARTICLE XVIII of Ordinance
No. 313, entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, MAKING CERTAIN PROVISIONS
RELATING TO PUBLIC STREETS AND PUBLIC
PLACES WITHIN SAID CITY; REGULATING
TRAFFIC IN AND UPON SUCH PUBLIC STREETS
AND PLACES; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES
AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THERM11ITH.112
passed and adopted on the 25th day of June, 1947, shall be
and the same is hereby amended by adding a new section
thereto, to be designated as "SECTION 2.1," which said
new Section 2.1 shall read as follows:
"SECTION 2.1. That the City Council of the
City of El Segundo, California, does hereby determine,
upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investi-
gation duly ordered and made, that the prima facie
speed limit of fifty -five miles per hour presently
obtaining on that certain portion of El Segundo
Boulevard, between Virginia Street and Sierra Street,
mi thin said City, is more than is reasonable and safe
upon said portion of said El Segundo Boulevard, and
that said Council does hereby determine and declare
that the reasonable and safe prima facie speed limit
thereon is thirty -five miles per hour, which said

miles per hour shall be effective when appropriate
signs giving notice thereof are erected upon said
highway."
SECTION 2. That said Ordinance No. 313 is hereby
amended as hereinabove in Section 1 of this ordinance set
forth.
SECTION 3. That this ordinance is an emergency
ordinance affecting the public peace, health and safety of
the City of El Segundo, and the same shall therefore talm
effect and be in full force and virtue immediately upon
the final passage and adoption thereof.
The facts constituting its urgency are: The
speed of vehicular traffic on El Segundo Boulevard between
Virginia Street and Sierra Street within said City has
become so fast as to constitute and be a menace to life and
proe rty. It is essential that such speed be reduced at
the earliest possible moment to safe limits and the amend-
ment made by this ordinance is therefore urgently required
in order to preserve and protect the public peace, health
and safety.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause
the same to be published once in the El Segundo Herald, a
weekly newspaper of general circulation, published and
circulated within said City, and. which is hereby designated
for that purpose.
