ORDINANCE 320o v ORDINANCE N0. g20. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUivDO, CALIFORNIA, RELATING TO THE NUMBERING OF BUILDINGS; PROVIDING FOR THE PUNISH- KENT OF THOSE WHO VIOLATE ITS PROVISIONS; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE N0. 36 OF SAID CITY. The City Council of the City of El Segundo, California, does ordain as follows: SECTION 1. That all entranoes from the public streets of the City of El Segundo, California, to buildings or structures within said city, shall be numbered as here- inafter provided. The number of each and every such entrance shall be placed in a conspicuous place upon, or immediately adjacent to, the door or gate closing such entrance. Each figure of said number shall be at least two inches in height and of corresponding width. The appropriate number of any entrance to any building or structure shall be placed thereon as herein provided, within five days after the receipt by the owner, occupant, lessee, tenant, or sub - tenant of such building, of a notice from the Building Inspector of said city, of the number or numbers designated for such building or structure, and all numbers other than the numbers provided for in this ordinance for said respective entrances, shall be removed from every building by the owners, occupants, lessees, tenants, or sub - tenants thereof, within five days from the service of the said notice designating the appropriate numbers to be placed thereon. It shall be the duty of the Building Inspector to designate the respective numbers for buildings'or structures fronting on streets heretofore laid out, or 1- -- J hereafter to be laid out or extended, and which may at this time, or at any future time, be included within the present or future boundaries of said City of El Segundo. SECTION 2. That the following shall be the re.. speetive starting points or dividing lines on buildings or structures fronting on streets heretofore laid out, or here- after to be laid out or extended, namely: The street now known as El Segundo Boulevard shall be the starting point or dividing line for all numbers from North to South, and the street now known as Main Street shall be the dividing line of all numbers from East to West. Numbers shall begin at the above named starting points or dividing lines, and continue to the termini of the respective streets. SECTION 3. That the numbers on the Northerly and Westerly sides of the streets shall be odd numbers, and the numbers on the Southerly and Easterly sides of the streets shall be even numbers. SECTION 4. That a block, within the meaning of this ordinance, shall be that portion of any street between two cross streets, or between a cross street and an abutting street, or between two abutting streets. In cases of abutting streets, the prolonged center line of the abutting streets shall be the dividing line of the blocks, provided, however, that all blocks exceeding six hundred sixty feet in length shall be considered as two blocks. SECTION 5. One hundred numbers, or as many thereof as may be necessary, shall be allotted to each block, No. 100 shall be the first number used at the respective beginning points on the sides of the streets, which are to contain the even numbers, and No. 101 for the sides which are to contain the odd numbers. At the beginning of the second block from the starting point, the first numbers shall be 200 and 201 respect- fully, and so continue throughout the system. 2_ ( elm) ,%;& & e_ or Twenty feet frontage shall be allowed for each number to be calculated from end of the block at which the number begins. On all streets, the numbering shall be done as if the streets extended to the dividing line of the city as defined in Section 2 of this ordinance. entitled: SECTION 6. That Ordinance No. 36 of said city, "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, RELATING TO THE NUMBING OF BUILDINGS AND PROVIDING FOR THE PUNISHMENT OF THOSE WHO VIOLATE ITS PROVISIONS. ", passed and adopted on the 29th day of May, 1918, be and the same is hereby repealed. SECTION 7. That this ordinance shall become effective at midnight on the thirtieth day from and after the date of the passage and adoption thereof. SECTION 8. That any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this ordinance, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine not exceeding 300.00, or by imprisonment in the County Jail of Los Angeles County, California, or in the City Jail of said City of El Segundo, as the committing magistrate may direct, for a period of not to exceed three months, or by both such fine and im.. prisonment in the discretion of the Court. SECTION 9. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once in the E1 Segundo Herald, a weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed, published and circulated within said city, and which is hereby de- signated for that purpose. 3— ____j Passed, approved and adopted this _12th day of November , A.
