ORDINANCE NO. 225
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 204 OF
SAID CITY, ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, REGULATING
TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS, AVENUES,
ALLEYS, THOROUGHFARES AND PLACES WITHIN
SAID CITY, AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES
AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THERE-
WITH.", PASSED AND ADOPTED ON THE 28TH DAY
OF OCTOBER, 1936, IN VARIOUS PARTICULARS.
The City Council of the City of El Segundo, Cali-
fornia, does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That Article I of Ordinance No. 204 of
the City of El Segundo, California, entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUND 0,
CALIFORNIA, REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON THE
PUBLIC STREETS, AVENUES, ALLEYS, THOROUGH-
FARES AND PLACES WITHIN SAID CITY, AND
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH. ",
passed and adopted on the 28th day of October, 1936, shall be
and the same is hereby amended by adding a new section to said
Article I thereof, to be known and designated as "Section 17.1%
and which said new Section 17.1 of said Article I shall read

as follows, to -wit:
' "SECTION 17.1. DISTINCTIVE STREET OR ROADWAY
MARKING. A double line as now in use on State high-
ways. Said marking shall consist of two white stripes,
or of one white stripe and one yellow stripe, painted
on the street or roadway surface, each stripe three
inches wide and the two stripes separated by a three
Inch black stripe. Said three inch black stripe may
be obtained either by painting or by effect of
bituminous pavements."

SECTION 2. That Section 25 of Article III of said
Ordinance No. 204 shall be and the same is hereby amended
so as to read as follows:
"SECTION 25. THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO INSTALL
TRAFFIC SIGNALS, SAFETY ZONES AND LANES FOR TRAFFIC.
The Chief of Police is hereby authorized:
1. To install and maintain official traffic
signals at such intersections and other places as he
may deem necessary for the regulation of traffic.
2. To establish safety zones at such places as
he may deem necessary for the protection of pedestrians.
3. To mark lanes for traffic on street pavements
at such places as he may deem advisable, consistent
with the Vehicle Code and traffic ordinances of this
city.
4. To determine the locations and extent of all
distinctive street or roadway markings within said
city, and to cause such markings to be placed and in-
dicated upon such streets and roadways. Signs shall
not be required in connection with said distinctive
street or roadway markings."
SECTION 3. That a new section shall be and the same
Is hereby added to Article III of said Ordinance No. 204, to
be known and designated as "Section 26.1 ", and which said
new Section 26.1 shall read as follows, to -wit:
"SECTION 26.1. OBEDIENCE TO DISTINCTIVE STREET
OR ROADWAY MARKINGS. No person shall ride or drive
any animal or any vehicle upon or across any distinctive
street or roadway marking within said city, placed under
the provisions of this ordinance, or on the lefthand
side of any such marking in the direction in which such
animal or vehicle is at the time proceeding, except in
those cases where one yellow stripe appears in such

marking immediately to the left of any such animal
or vehicle and on the same side of the street or
roadway as that in which such animal or vehicle is
at the time proceeding."
SECTION 4. That a new section shall be and the
same is hereby added to Article VII of said Ordinance No. 204,
to be known and designated as "Section 45.1% and which said
new Section 45.1 shall read as follows, to -wit:
"SECTION 45.1. TORCHES, LIGH'T'S, LANTERNS, SIGNS
AND BARRIERS. No person other than an officer or em-
ployee of the City of E1 Segundo, and who is at the
time acting in line of duty and in the course of his
employment as such officer or employee, shall handle,
interfere or tamper with, displace, remove, damage or
extinguish any torch, light or lantern, whether illu-
minated or not, placed in, on, upon, near or about any
excavation, embankment, obstruction, improvement, cut,
fill, earth, material or flooded area in any public
street, road, alley, easement, way or place within
said city."
SECTION 5. That a new section shall be and the
same is hereby added to Article VII of said Ordinance No. 204,
to be known and designated as "Section 45.2 ", and which said
new Section 45.2 shall read as follows, to -wit:
"SECTION 45.2. SIGNS, OBSTRUCTIONS AND BARRIERS.
No person other than an officer or employee of the
City of E1 Segundo, and who is at the time acting in
line of duty and in the course of his employment as
such officer or employee, shall handle, interfere or
tamper with, displace, remove or damage any sign, ob-
struction or barrier placed in, on, upon, near or about
any excavation, embankment, improvement, cut, fill,
earth, material or flooded area in any public street,
road, alley, easement, way or place within said city."
SECTION 6. That said Ordinance No. 204 is hereby
amended as hereinabove in Sections 1, 22 31 4 and 5 of this
ordinance set forth.
SECTION 7. That this ordinance shall become effec-
tive at midnight on the thirtieth day from and after the date
of the final passage and adoption thereof.
SECTION 8. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this ordinance, and shall cause
the same to be published once in the E1 Segundo Herald, a
weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed, published
and circulated within the said City of E1 Segundo, and which
is hereby designated for that purpose.
