ORDINANCE NO. 224 .
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, FIXING THTE AMOUNT OF MONEY
NECESSARY TO BE RAISED BY TAXATION UPON THE
TAXABLE PROPERTY THEREIN AS A REVENUE TO
CARRY ON THE VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS (INCLUDING
THE EL SEGUNDO PUBLIC LIBRARY) AND PAY THE
BONDSD INDEBTEDNESS OF SAID CITY FOR THE
CURRENT FISCAL YEAR, 1939 -1940.
The City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, Cali-
fornia, does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That the amount of money necessary to
be raised by taxation upon the taxable property in the City
of E1 Segundo, California, as a revenue to carry on the
various departments (including the E1 Segundo Public Library)
of said municipal corporation for the current fiscal year
1939 -1940, and to pay the bonded and other indebtedness of
said City of El Segundo, California, and necessary to be
raised by taxation upon the taxable land of that certain
municipal improvement district therein, hereinafter referred
to, is hereby, for the respective items or purposes above and
hereinafter referred to, fixed as follows, to -wit:
1. For carrying on the various departments
(including the E1 Segundo Public Library)
of said City, the sum of ............... $87$31.95
2. For paying the bonded indebtedness of
said City, the sum of $23,290.10
3. For paying the bonded indebtedness of
Act of 1927 Municipal Improvement District
No. 1 of the City of E1 Segundo,
the sum of Nothing
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this ordinance, and shall cause
the same to be published once in the E1 Segundo. Herald, a
weekly newspaper printed, published and circulated in the

newspaper is published for the dissemination of local or telegraphic news and intelligence of a general

was not at any of the times herein referred to, devoted to the interests, or published for the enter -

paper is not devoted to or published for, nor was it at any of the times herein mentioned devoted to

City of E1 Segundo, which is hereby designated for that
purpose.
SECTION 3. This ordinance, being an ordinance
required under the provisions of an Act of the Legislature
of the State of California, entitled, "An Act to Provide
for the Levy and Collection of Taxes by and for the Use of
Municipal Corporations and Cities Incorporated under the
Laws of the State of California, except Municipal Corpora-
tions of the First Class, and to Provide for the Consolida-
tion and Abolition of Certain Municipal Offices, and to
Provide that their Duties may be Performed by Certain Officers
of the County, and Fixing the CompaRnsation to be Allowed for
such County Officers for the Services so Rendered to such
Municipal Corporations." approved March 27, 1895, as amended
to date, to go into effect on or before the 29th day of
August, A. D., 1939; and also being an ordinance for the
immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety
of said City in this, that it is urgently needed to make
proper provision for municipal revenues without which the
City could not function, the same shall, therefore, take
effect and be in full force immediately upon the passage
and adoption thereof.

August, A. D., 1939.

I do hereby further certify that pursuant to the pro-
visions of Section 878 of Act 5233 of the General Laws of the

of said City in the El Segundo Herald, a weekly newspaper of
general circulation printed, published and circulated within
