ORDINANCE NO. 222 .
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING RULES AND REGULA-
TIONS RELATING TO AND REGULATING THE
ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION, ENLARGEMENT,,
ALTERATION, REPAIR, MOVING, REMOVAL,
DEMOLITION, CONVERSION, OCCUPANCY, EQUIP-
MENT, USE, HEIGHT, AREA AND MAINTENANCE OF
BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN THE SAID CITY;
PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS; DE-
CLARING AND ESTABLISHING FIRE ZONES;
PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION
THEREOF; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES
AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THERE-
WITH; BY ADOPTING CERTAIN PORTIONS OF A
CERTAIN CODE DESIGNATED THEREIN AS "BUILDING
CODE" RELATING TO SUCH MATTERS, PRINTED IN
BOOK FORM AND FILED, TOGETHER WITH ALL
DOCUMENTS THEREIN REFERRED TO, AS PROVIDED
BY LAW, IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK OF
SAID CITY.
The City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
California, does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That the rules, regulations, provisions,
requirements, orders and matter set forth in the following
portions, to -wit: in pages 7 to 96, both inclusive, and in
pages 113 to 301, both inclusive, of that certain code entitled:
"Uniform Building Code 1937 Edition" and its appendix and in
the "Specification Documents" therein referred to, and which
is designated therein as the "Building Code" and which said
code, appendix and specification documents as hereinafter

referred to and more particularly identified, shall be and
the same are hereby established and adopted as the rules,
regulations, provisions, requirements and orders to be ob-
served and followed in the erection, construction, enlarge-
ment, alteration, repair, moving, removal, demolition,
conversion, occupancy, equipment, use, height, area and
maintenance of buildings and structures in said City of
E1 Segundo, California, and said portions of said code and
its appendix and the said "Specification Documents" contain-
ing such rules, regulations, provisions, requirements, orders
and matters are hereby established and adopted by, in and
for said city.
Said code and its appendix hereinabove referred
to, portions of which are hereinabove adopted, contains in
all, including the portions as to adopted and certain portions
thereof not hereby adopted, a total of 352 pages numbered
from 1 to 352, both inclusive, and 2 pages lettered A and D
respectively. Said code and its appendix is printed as a
code in book form and is entitled on the front, outside cover
thereof: "Uniform Building Code 1937 Edition ". Three full,
printed copies of said code and its said appendix, printed as
a code in book form, together with three. full and complete
printed sets of all "Specification Documents" also printed
in book form referred to in the reference to Sec. 4602 of
said code set forth on pages 286, 2870 288 and 289 of the
said appendix to said code, were heretofore by this Council
on the 10th day of May, 1939, ordered filed in the office
of the City Clerk of said City, and pursuant to the said
order, the said code and its said appendix and all of said
"Specification Documents" were so actually filed in the office
of the City Clerk of the City of E1 Segundo, California, on
the said 10th day of May, 1939.

SECTION 2. That the said "Uniform Building Code
1937 Edition" and its said appendix and the said "Specification
Documents" referred to in Sec. 4602 of said Uniform Building Code
and in said reference to said Sec. 4602 above mentioned, all
of which are hereinabove mentioned or referred to in Section 1
of this ordinance, are now on file in the office of the City
Clerk of said city and open to public inspection, examination
and use and are hereby expressly referred to and by this re-
ference are expressly incorporated herein and made a part
hereof as fully as though the same were herein set forth at
length.
SECTION 3. That as set forth in Sec. 305 of the
said "Uniform Building Code 1937 Edition ", it shall be un-
lawful for any person, firm or corporation to erect, construct,
enlarge, alter, repair, move, remove, demolish, convert, equip,
use or occupy or maintain any building or structure or any
portion of any building or structure in the City of El Segundo,
California, contrary to or in violation of any provision
hereinabove adopted, of the said "Uniform. Building Code 1937
Edition" or its said appendix or of any of said "Specification
Documents ", or to cause, permit or suffer the same to be done.
That any person, firm or corporation violating any
of the provisions of said code or its said appendix or of any
of said "Specification Documents" therein referred to shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punishable by
a fine of not more than Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00) or by
imprisonment in the City Jail of the City of E1 Segundo, Cali-
fornia, or in the County Jail of the County of Los Angeles,
California, as the committing magistrate may direct, for not
more than three (3) months or by both such fine and imprison-
ment in the discretion of the court. That each such person,
firm or corporation shall be deemed guilty of a separate
offense for each and every day or portion thereof during

which any violation of any of the provisions of said code
or its said appendix or any of its said "Specification
Documents" therein referred to is committed, continued or
permitted.
SECTION 4. That as provided in Section 4604 of
said "Uniform Building Code 1937 Edition" hereby adopted,
this ordinance shall be and is hereby declared to be in full
force and effect from and after thirty (30) days from its
date of final passage and approval.
SECTION 5. That as provided in Sec. 4603 of said
"Uniform Building Code 1937 Edition ", Ordinance No. 174 of
said City entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING RULES AND REGULA-
TIONS RELATING TO AND REGULATING THE
ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION, ENLARGEMENT, ALTERA-
TION, REPAIR, MOVING, REMOVAL, DEMOLITION,
CONVERSION, OCCUPANCY, EQUIPMENT, USE,
HEIGHT, AREA AND MAINTENANCE, OF BUILDINGS
AND /OR STRUCTURES IN THE SAID CITY; PROVIDING
FOR THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS THEREFOR; DE-
CLARING AND ESTABLISHING FIRE DISTRICTS;
PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION
THEREOF, AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND /OR
PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH;
BY ADOPTING CERTAIN PORTIONS OF A CERTAIN
CODE (DESIGNATED THEREIN AS "1930 EDITION
OF THE PACIFIC COAST CONFERENCE UNIFORM
BUILDING CODE "), RELATING TO SUCH MATTERS,
PRINTED IN BOOK FORM AND FILED AS PROVIDED
BY LAW IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK OF
SAID CITY. ",
passed and adopted on the 19th day of November, 1930, and the
Uniform Building Code therein adopted, and all ordinances
amendatory of said Ordinance No. 174 and of said Uniform
Building Code thereby adopted, and all ordinances or parts
of ordinances of said city insofar as the same conflict with
said hereby adopted portions of said "Uniform Building Code
1937 Edition" and its said appendix and said "Specification
Documents" therein referred to, are hereby repealed.
SECTION 6. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this ordinance; shall enter the same

in the book of original ordinances of said City; shall
make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the
records of the proceedings of the City Council of said City
in the minutes of the meeting of said Council at which the
same is passed and adopted; and shall, within fifteen (15)
days after the passage and adoption thereof, cause the same
to be published once in the E1 Segundo Herald, a weekly
newspaper of general circulation, published and circulated
within the said City of E1 Segundo, and which is hereby
designated for that purpose.
Passed, approved and adopted this 17th day of
May, A. D-3, 1939.
