ORDINANCE NO. 194-A .
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 156
OF SAID CITY, ENTITLED, "AN ORDINANCE OF
THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, PRO-
HIBITING THE ESTABLISHMENT OR CARRYING ON
WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF A CERTAIN PORTION
OF SAID CITY, OF CERTAIN BUSINESSES,
INDUSTRIES, TRADES AMID CALLINGS HEREIN
DECLARED AND DETEMIINED TO BE NUISANCES,
OBNOXIOUS AND DAir7EROUS TO HUMAN BEINGS ",
ADOPTED ON THE 1ST DAY OF LARCH, A. D., 1929,
BY ADDING A NEW SECTION THERETO TO BE KNOWN
AS "SECTION 1 -A ", AND BY AMENDING "SECTION 2"
The City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
California, does ordain as Jbllows:
SECTION 1. That Ordinanoe No. 156 of the City of
E1 Segundo, California, entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, PROHIBITING THE ESTABLISHMENT
OR CARRYING ON WITHIN TIE BOUNDARIES OF A
CERTAIN PORTION OF SAID CITY, OF CERTAIN
BUSINESSES, INDUSTRIES, TRADES AND CALLINGS
HEREIN DECLARED AND DETEFUINED TO BE NUISANCES,
OBNOXIOUS AND DANGEROUS TO HUMAN BEINGS ",
passed and adopted on the fi zet day of march, A. D., 1929,
be, and the same is hereby amended by adding a new section
thereto, to be known aril designated as "Section 1 -A ", and
which said new section shall read as follows:
"SECTION 1 -A. That the: re is hereby established in
the City of El Segundo, California, a certain residence
district which shall be known and designated as
'Residence District No. 3' and the said Residence

District No. 3 shall consist of all that territory
in the City of El Segundo, California, included
within the following described exterior boundary
line, to-wit:
Beginning at the southwesterly corner of Lot 20,
Block 10, as sho xm upon E1 Segundo Sheet Number 1,
reoorded' in Book 18, Page 69 of Maps, Records of Los
Angeles County, California, and on file in the office
of the county Recorder of said county, said point
being also on the easterly line of plain Street, and
on the northerly line of E1 Segando Boulevard as shown
upon the above mentioned map, and recorded aimd on file
as afo resaid_; thence northerly along the easterly line
of Main Street to the southwesterly comer of Lot 23,
Tract 1826, recorded in Book 21, page 95 of Maps,
Records of Los Angeles County, Califo mia, and on file
as aforesaid, and said point being also on the nortkerly
line of Grand Avenue; thence easterly along the north-
erly line of Grand Avenue and its projection across
intersecting streets and alleys to its intersection
with the westerly line of Eucalyptus Drive; thence
northerly along the westerly line of Eucalyptus Drive
to its intersection with the westerly prolongation of
the northerly line, line east, of Holly Avenue, as
shown upon that map of Tract 2111, recorded in Book 22,
page 141 of Maps, Records of Los Angeles County,
California, and on file as aforesaid; thence easterly
along the northerly line of Holly Avenue and its
projection across intersecting streets and alleys to
the intersection with the westerly line of Sheldon
Street as shown upon El Segundo Sheet No. 7, recorded
in Book 22, Pages 54 and 55 of Maps, Records of Los
Angeles County, California, and on file as aforesaid;
thence northerly along the westerly line of Sheldon
Street and its projection across intersecting streets
and alleys to the southeasterly comer of Lot 33,
Tract 2540, recorded in Book 25, page 30 of Maps,
Records of Los Angeles County, California, and on
file as aforesaid, said point being also on the
northerly line of PIn-W Avenue;, thence easterly along
the northerly line of Pine Avenue and its projection
across intersecting streets and alleys, to the most
southeasterly comer of Lot 19, Block 91, as shown
upon E1 Segundo Sheet No. 7, recorded in Book 22, pages
54 and 55 of Maps, Records of Los Angeles County,
California, and on file as aforesaid, tken.ce north-
easterly along the southerly line of Lots 19, 20, 219
22 and 23, Block 91 to the southeasterly copier of
Lot 23, recorded and on file as aforesaid, said point
being also on the westerly line of Sierra Street;
thence northerly along the westerly line of Sierra
Street to the northeasterly comer of Lot 25, Block 91,
recorded and on file as afo resaid; thence westerly
along the northerly line of Loci 25 to its intersection
with the westerly line of the. J. H. Fisher Subdivision,
recorded in Book 22,_ page 87 of Misoellaneous Reoords,
Records of Los Angeles County, California, -and on file
as aforesaid; thence northerly along the westerly line
Of the J. H. Fisher Subdivision to its intersection

with the southerly line of Collingwood Street
( Imperial Highway) as shown upon E1 Segundo Sheet
No. 4, recorded in Book 20, page 24 of Daps,
Records of Los Inge le s County, Ca]ifo mia, and
on file as aforesaid; thence easterly along the
souther7,y line of Collingwood Street (Imperial
Highway) and its projection across intersecting
streets to a point 100 feet easterly from the
intersection of the easterly line of Sepulveda
Boulevard with the southerly line of Collingwood
Street (Imperial Highway) as the same now exists;
thence southerly along a line 100 feet easterly
frcn and parallel with the easterly line of
Sepulveda Boulevard, to the intersection of the
northerly line of El Segundo Boulevard as the
same now exists; thence westerly along the
northerly line of El Segundo Boulevard and its
projection across intersecting streets and alleys
to the point of beginning."
SECTION 2. That Section 2 of said Ordinance
No. 156 of the City of El Segundo, be and the same is
hereby amended so as to read as follows:
"SECTION 2. That it shall be unlawful for
any person, firm or corporation to establish,
conduct, operate or maintain at any place in the
residence districts No. 2 and No. 3 hereinabo ve
in Sections 1 and lnAof this ordinance desoribed,
any of the following specified trades, businesses,
vocations, callings, activities or industries, to -wit:
amonia, chlorine or bleaching powder manufacture;
asphaltum, manufacture or refining; brick, the and
terraootta manufacturing; boiler works, creosote
treatment -or manufactwe; distillation of coal, wood
or bones; fat rendering; fertilizer manufacture;
gas (illuminating or heating) manaufacture glue manu-
f ac ture : gun powder; fire works or explosives
manufacture or storage; incineration or reduction
or garbage, offal,, dead animals or refuse; iron
foundaries, lamp black; manufacture; lime, cement or
plaster of Paris manufacture; oil or gas well drilling;

petroleum or gas producing; petroleum refining;
paint manufacture; pickle, sour- kraut, sausage or
vinegar manufacture; railroad yard or round house;
lumber yard, planing mill, or woodworking mill, raw
hides and skins, curing and tanning; rolling mill,
sheet iron or sheet metal works, or mill or foundry,
scrap iron, junk or rags storage or bailing; auto-
mobile wrecking yard, automobile junk yard, automobile
salvaging yard, or any yard where automobiles or other
vehicles are torn down, broken up or otherwise taken
apart for the salvaging of a part or parts thereof;
slaughter of animals or fowls; smelting of iron;
scrap manufacture; ornamental or other iron works;
stock yards; stone mill or rock crusher; sulphureous
nitric or hydroeholori c acid manufacture; tallow,
grease and lard mamtfacture ; refining, tar roofing
or tar water proofing manufacture; tobacco (chewing)
manufacture; or similar obnoxious purposes or any
other trade, industry, business, calling, vocation
or activity producing noise, dust, smoke, gasses or
odors offensive to human beings; provided, however,
that nothing herein contained shall be construed as
applying to any such trade, business, vocation, caning,
activity or industry now actually established and
existing within said district at the time of the adoption
of this ordinance, but such existing trade, business,
vocation, calling, activity or industry shall not be
enlarged beyond the physical space a&ich it occupies
at the time of the taking effect of this ordinance;
and pzo vi ded further, that the City Council of said
City shall have the right and does hereby reserve the
right to grant written permits for the drilling, boring
or otherwise sinking of an oil or gas well, or oil or
gas wells, and /or the maintenanoe, pumping and /or opera-
tion of any such well or wells within the boundaries

of said district, upon application therefor, all
in the manner as contemplated in Ordinance No. 122
of the City Council of said City, entitled:
'AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGLJIDO, CALIFORNIA,
REGULATING THE DRILLING, MAINTENANCE AND COUSTRUCTION
OF OIL AND GAS VaLLS TBERE IN; DECLARING OIL AND GAS
WELLS WITHIN CERTAIN DISTRICTS WITHIN SAID CITY TO BE
NUISANCES, AND MAKING IT MAWFUL TO DRILL, MAINTAIN
OR OPERATP, OIL OR GAS VELLS VJI TH IN SUCH S PE C IE' IED
DISTRICTS; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF
THE PROVISIONS THEREOF; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES
AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH. "I
adopted on the 15th day of January, A. D., 1926,
relating to such matters."
SECTION 3. That said Ordinance No. 156 is hereby
amended as hereinabove in Sections 1 and 2 of this Ordinance
set forth.
SECTION 4. That this ordinance shall take effect
and be in full force and virtue thirty days from and after
the final passage and adoption thereof.
SECTION 5. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage arA adoption of this ordinance and shall cause
the same to be published once in the E1 Segundo Herald, a
weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed, published
and circulated in the said City of E1 Segundo, and which is
hereby designated fv r that purpose.
