ORDINANCE N0. 165 .
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUND 0,
CALIFOIUIQ, REGULATING THE DISTRIBUTIOff
OF HANDBILLS AND OTHER PAMPHLETS, NOTICES
AND ADVERTISEMENTS, AND THE POSTING OF
STICEMS OR OTHER PLACARDS OR NOTICES
WITHIN SAID CITY, AND REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN
CONFLI CT THEREWITH*
The City council (Board of Trustees) of the
City of El Segundo, Califo mia., do ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That it shall be unlawful for any
person, firm or corporation,. to distribute, peddle, throw
or deliver in the City of El Segundo, to or among any
other persons, in, along or upon, any public street, highway,
alley, park, depot, or any other public place, or into or
upon any automobile or other vehic=le or conveyame of
another person, firm or corporation, or into or upon any
mail bog, porch, yard or any portion of any premises within
said city, any handbill, poster, dodger, pamphlet or paper
containing printed or typewritten matter or advertising,
or other notice or advertisement=, provided however, that
this ordinance shall not apply to the distribution, peddling
or delivery to bona fide subscribers therefor within the
said city, of any magazine or newspaper of general circula-
tion published for the dissemination of local or telegraphic
news and/or intelligence of a general character, and Y&ich
is printed and published at regalar intervals, and which
has a bona fide subscription list of paying subscribers
within said city; an=d, provided further, that any handbill,
poster, dodger, pamphlet or paper containing painted,
printed or typewritten advertising or other notice, or

advertising matter, which has been designed, painted,
�..._ printed or otherwise composed by or for the benefit of
any religious, charitable or benevolent society, or cor-
poration, or by any political subdivision of the State,
or any state, county or city institution, may be distri-
bated, peddled or delivered without penalty for violation
of this ordinance.
SECTION 2. It shall be unlawful for any person,
firm or corporation to post,
print,
stick, stamp,
tack, or
otherwise affix, or cause the
same
to be done by
say other
person,
firm or
corporation,
any notice, placard,
bill, card,
poster,
sticker,
banner,, tin
sign, advertisement
or other
device calculated to attract the attention of the public,
to or upon any public sidewalk, cross walk, carb, curb-
stone, lamp post, hydrant, tree, railroad, trestle, electric
light or power, telephone, telegraph or trolley -wire pole,
or upon any fixture of the fire alarm, police or telegraph
systems or lighting systems of the City of E1 Segundo,
SECTION 3. It shall be unlawful for any persons
firm, or corporation to post, print, stick, stamp, tack or
otherwise affix, or cause the same to be done by 8zW other
person, Firm or corporation, any notice, placard, bill,
card, poster, sticker, banner, tin sign, advertisement or
other device, calculated to attract the attention of the public
t o o r upon azq building, wall or part there of, or to or upon
any private property, without the consent of the owner,
agent or occupant thereof.
SECTION 4. Nothing contained in this ordinance
shall be deemed to or shall apply to the posting of legal
notioes,by public officers or attorneys in the meaner and
place or places prescribed by law, or to permanent signs
painted on buildings, or s iSrns advertising the business
painted on buildings, or signs advertising the business
conducted on the premises.

SECTION 5. That any person, fine or corporation
violating any of the provisions of this ordinance, shall be
s
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof
a .
shall be punished by a fine not exceeding $300.00, or by
imprisonment in the County Jall,of Los Angeles County,
California, or in the City Jail of said City of El Segundo,
Cali fo mia, as the a!ommi tting magistrate may direct, for
a period of not to exceed six months,, or by both such fine
and imprisonment in the discretion of the Court.
SECTION 6. All ordinances and parts of ordinances
including Ordinance No. 160 of said city, in conflict
herewith, are hereby repealed.
SECTICU 7. That this ordinance shall bake effect
and be in fall fo ice and virtue thirty (30) days iron and
after th© final passage and adoption thereof.
SECTICU 8. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall
cause the ears to be published once in the official paper
of said city, to-wit: The E1 Segundo Herald, a weekly
newspaper printed, published and circulated within said
city, and ihich is hereby designated for that purpose.
