ORDINANCE 10882o ORDINANCE NO. 108 . AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO $ CALIFORNIA, PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISH- ING OF SAFETY ZONES WITHIN THE SAID CITY, AND REGULATING TRAFFIC WITH REFEMMCLE THERETO. The Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo do ordain as follows: SECTION 1. That the City Marshal of the City of 81 Segundo, California, is hereby authorized and directed to cause white lines to be painted or placed at each places as to him shall seem proper, upon any and all public streets, avenues, alleys, lanes and wasps with- in the said City, upon which streets, avenues, alleys, lanes and ways, or portion, or portions thereof, in the opinion of the said City Marshal, the travel or traffic is unusually heavy, or unusually dangerous. Such white lines shall be not less than six (6) inches nor more then twelve (12) inches in width and shall extend at right angles as nearly as possible fram the curb to the middle of the street on the side of the street in which traffic would ordinarily be proceeding under the laws of the State of California. Said City Marshal is further authorized and dir- acted to cause to be clearly painted upon the highway in letters not less than one (1) foot in height, ani not less than four (4) inches in width, the words "Safety Stop ", said words to be so painted within not less than aix (6) feet nor more than twelve (12) feet, of the white lines above mentioned, and placed so that same can be observed in proper position to be read by drivers of vehicles; In- f/ terurban railway cars, street cars or animals lswfully approaching such white line or lines. 4 821_ BE CT I ON 2. It s hal l b e unlawful f o r any person driving, using or having control of any vehicle,. or for arty person driving any animal; or for any motor- man, or any other person operating or having charge or control of any street car or interurban railway car or train of cars, to fail, refuse, or neglect to stop such interurban railway car,, or train of cars, or vehicle, or animal, or street car, as the case may be, immediately before proceeding to arose arq such white line so placed,. or painted, as above set forth. SECTION 3. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this Ordinanoe shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be puni Ehed by a fine of not more than One Hundred Fifty Dollars ($150.00), or by imprisonment in the County Jail of Los Angeles County,. California, or in the City Jail of the City of El Segundo, California, as the Committ- ing Magistrate may direct, for a period of not to exceed thirty (30) days; or by both such f ine and imprisonment at —� the discretion of the Court. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage aid adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once in the El Segundo Herald, a week- ly newspaper of general circulation-, printed, published and circulated within the said City of El 3egando; and which is hereby designated for that purpose.. Said City Clerk shall also cause a printed copy of this Ordinance to be conspicuously posted in each of the three following pubp lie places in said City of E1 Segundo, to-wit: One such copy thereof on the bulletin board at the United States Post Of fie a in se. id. City ; one such copy t hereof on the bulletil board at the main entrance gate. of the oil re- finery of the Standard Oil Company of California, on. 8- El Segundo Avenue; and one such copy on the official bulletin board at the City Haul in said City. This Ordinance shall take effect thirty days from and after the final passage ani adoption thereof. Passed, approved and adopted this 29th day of July ; A. D. , 19 24.
