ORDINANCE NO. 106
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF El; SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, AMP, DING URDINANCE NO. 12
OF SAID CITY, ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE
OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, LICENSING AND
REGULATING CERTAIN KINDS OF BUSINESS TRANS-
ACTED AND CARRIED ON IN SAID CITY AND
MING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF,"
ADOPTED ON THE 14TH DAY OF MARCH, 1917.
The Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo,
California, do ordain as follows:
SECTION ONE. That Section 11 of Ordinance No.
12 of the City of El Segundo, California, entitled: "An
Ordinance of the City of El Segundo, Licensing and Regu-
lating Certain Kinds of Business Transacted and Carried
on in said City and Fixing a Penalty for Violation thereof ",
adopted on the 14th day of March, 1917, be and the same
is bh eby amended so as to read as follows:
"Section 11. For every person, firm or
corporation carrying on the business of
advertising by posting, stioking, tanking,
affixing or painting bills or signs to or upon
posts, fenoes or buildings, or the business
of distributing or of advertising by distrib-
uting posters, dodgers or printed advertise-
ments of any kind, $5.00 per day; provided
however, that each such person, firm or oor-
poration must and shall before the issuance
of any license under this section obtain
from the City Clark of said City a permit
to engage in such business within said pity,
which said permit shall only be issued on
written application therefor, stating the
name of the person, firm or oorporation res-
ponsible for the advertising, posting, stioking,
tacking, affixing or painting, aLd/or distri-
bution of such dodgers, posters or printed
statements or advertising, provided however,
that it shall be unlawful for any person to
throw, or deposit, or place with the intention
of leaving, in any public street within said
City any sample or samples of goods, wares or
merohandise, or any posters, dodgers or printed
advertising matter."
SECTION TWO. That Section 14 of said Ordinance
No. 12 be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as
follows:
"Section 14. For every person engaged in the
business of a book agent. $25.00 per month,
or $5.00 per day."
SECTICU THRM, That Section 15 of said Ordinance
No. 129 be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as
follows:
"Section 15. For every person, firm or oor-
poration conducting, managing or carrying on
a circus or a tent show or performanoe of any
kind under a tent or canvas, where four or
more people are employed, $5.OQ per day."
SECTION FOUR. That Section 17 of said Ordinance
No. 129 be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as
follows:
"Section 17. For conducting any street stand
for the selling of any goods, wares or merohan-
dise on any portion of the public streets
within the City of El Segundo, $15.00 per month,
provided that no license shall be issued for any
such stand until a permit has first been ob-
tained from the Board of Trustees and that the
application for such permit must be aocompanied
by the written consent of the owner or occupant
of the premises abutting immediately upon that
portion of the street which the applicant desires
to use; and further provided that the said
Board of Trustees shall have the right to grant
or refuse such permit under this section in its
discretion."
SECTION FIVE., That Section 26 of said Ordinance
No. 12, be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as
follows:
"Section 26. For every person, firm or oor-
poration conducting, managing or carrying on
any hotel, boarding house or lodging house
oontaining more than ten sleeping rooms, or
carrying on the business of a restaurant or
lunch oounter, $3.00 per quarter."

SECTION SIZ. That Section 28 of said Ordinance
No. 12, be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as
follows:
M_ "section 280 For every person, firm or oor-
poration conducting or carrying on the business
of peddling azW kind of goods, wares or
merchandise on foot, $100.00 per quarter."
SECTION SLOVEN. That Section 30 of said Ordinance
No. 12, be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as
follows:
"Section 30. For every person, firm or oor-
poration conducting or carrying on the business
of peddling goods, wares or merchandise of
any kind, inoluding among other things,
fruits, vegetables, food, and /or food stuffs
for human o onsumpt ion, from a wagon or vehicle,
$30.00 per half year; provided that each of
such wagons or vehicles shall be designated
by a number to be furnished by the City Clerk
and placed thereon in a conspicuous place;
provided further, that a person holding a
license under this section shall not be per-
' mitted to remain in or permanently occupy any
one place upon the public streets, but shall
only have the right under Inch license to
travel along the street in the usual and
customary meaner of such peddlers in order to
carry on such business."
SECTION EIGHT. That Section 32 of said Ordinance
No. 12 be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as
follows:
"Section 32. Forevery person o uoting or
parrying on the business of sol . ing orders
for paintings, picturea, ports .s; photo-
graphs, or orders for advertising, or orders
for the sale of any kind of goods, wares or
merchandise, inolud: ng food and /or food stuffs
for human oonsumption, when not in conjunction
with oarrying on any store or fixed place of
business for which a license is held hereunder,
$15900 per day; provided that no license shall
be required for any person whose business is
limited to the sale of goods, wares or mer-
chandise at wholesale, or to the solioiting of
orders for the same at wholesale.,,
SECTION NINE. That Section 33 of said Ordinaz
No. 12 be and the same is hereby amended so as to read ai
follows:

"Section 33. 'For every person, firm or oor-
poration conducting, managing or carrying on
the business of junk dealer, or junk collector,
for himself or for any other person, $2.60 per
month or 50 cents per day."
SECTION TEN. That a new section to be known as
Section 38A be and the some is hereby added to said Ordinance
No. 12, which said Section 36A shall read as follows:
"Section 38A. Any licensee hereunder may at
the time of obtaining the original license, or
upon any renewal thereof, pay in advance and
receive a license for# more than one license
period if he or she so desires."
SECTION EISVEN: The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this Ordinance and shall oause the same
to be published once in the El Segundo Herald, a weekly news-
paper of general circulation, printed, published and ciroula-
ted within the said City of El Segundo, and which is hereby
designated for that purpose. Said City Clerk shall also
cause a printed copy of this Ordinance to be conspicuously
posted in each of the three following public places in said
City of El Segundo, to -wit: one such copy thereof on the
bulletin board at the United States Post Office in said City;
one such copy thereof on the bulletin board at the main
entrance gate of the oil refinery of the Standard Oil C=Wazw
of California, on El Segundo 4venue; and one such copy on the
official bulletin board at the City Hall in said City.
This ordinance shall take effect thirty (30) daps
from and after the final passage and adoption thereof.

day of July, 1924, and that the same Was so passed and
adopted by the following vote:
AYES: Trustees Anderson, Cannon, Gerow, Love and Binder.
NOES: Trustees bone.
