PROPERTY 7ITHIN SAID CITY.
The Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo
do ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. It shall be the duty of the Pound-
master to take up, seize, and impound all horses, mules,
asses, goats, cows, bulls, calves, sheep, swine, untagged
dogs, or other domestic animals, or any of such animals,
found running at large or estrayed, or staked, or in any
manner grazing, or being grazed or fed (except from a
nose -bag), upon any public street, way, square, park,
or place in said city, or any of said animals which is
upon or being led or driven upon any improved sidewalk
in said city, except at places where said sidewalks may
be crossed by regularly constructed driveways*
SECTION 2. Any animal or fowl found trespassing
upon any private property in said city may be taken up
by any person and committed to the custody of the Pound -
master, who shall hold the same subject to reasonable
demands for actual damages done by said animal or fowl,
in addition to the fees prescribed herein.
Any animal or fowl taken up or impounded by the
Poundmaster, or committed to him under the provisions of
this ordinance, may be redeemed upon payment to the Pound -
master for the City of E1 Segundo of the necessary cost of
subsistence and care for said animal or fowl, plus a pound fee
of �_ 1.00 , for each such horse, mule, ass, cow or bull;

other animal, except dogs; and t .25 for each such
f owl.
Section 3. The Poundmaster shall keep a true and faith-
`. ful record of the number and description of all animals and fowls
taken into his custody, with the date of their receipt and
the date and manner of their disposal, with the fees and
charges collected on account of said animals, and the said
fowl$, and the disposition thereof. Said record to be kept by
the Poundmaster in a book or books provided for that purpose,
which shall be the record book or books of the office of the
Poundmaster and shall not be removed therefrom. He shall also
keep conspicuously posted at the entrance of the pound a list of all
animals therein detained. He shall also provide necessary subsis-
tence for all animals and fowls while in his custody.
Section 4. All animals (except dogs), taken into the custody
of the Poundmaster, and all fowls so taken, if not reclaimed
within two days thereafter, shall be advertised as follows:
Horses, cows, bulls, oxen, mules or asses, for two successive
publications in the official paper of the City of E1 Segundo; and
Swine, sheep, lambs, goats, other small animals and fowls,
may be advertised by written notice posted conspicuously on the
pound gate and on the bulletin board near the Council Chamber
Door for five days.
Said notices shall describe the animals or fowls impounded
and give the time and place of sale.
Section 5. At the time specified in and after said adver-
tisement, as provided in section 4 of this ordinance, or at
any postponement thereof, the Poundmaster shall sell for
cash all animals so advertised, and out of the proceeds of the
sale thereof pay his proper fees and charges and all reasonable
and proper demands made under the provisions of Section 2 of
this ordinance.

Any balance of the proceeds of a sale of any
animal remaining after the payment of such fees,
charges, and demands, shall be paid into the city
treasury, for the use of the owner of such animal,
if claimed within six (6) months thereafter; if not,
the same shall be turned into the general fund of
such treasury.
SECTION 6. The owner or persons entitled to
the control of any animal impounded, may at any time
before the sale or other disposition thereof, redeem
the same by paying to the Poundmaster all proper fees
and charges thereon, made by virtue of any of the
provisions of this Ordinance.
SECTION 7. This ordinance shall not be construed
to repeal any existing ordinance or provision of any
ordinance of the City of E1 Segundo.
SECTION 8. The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to
be published by one insertion in the El Segundo Herald,
a weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed, pub-
lished and circulated within said city of E1 Segundo and
hereby designated for that purpose.
This ordinance is an ordinance affecting the pub-
lie peace, health and safety of the City of E1 Segundo,
and the facts constituting its urgency are as follows:
The persons and property of the public of the City of E1
Segundo require immediate protection from animals running
at large and from trespassing animals and fowls and there-
fore this ordinance shall take effect immediately upon
the final passage and adoption thereof.
