ORDINANCE N0. 46
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALI-
FORNIA, REGULATING TRAFFIC AND DESCRIBING A
SYSTEM OF SIGNALS TO BE USED BY PERSONS OPERAT-
ING VEHICLES UPON THE PUBLIC HIGHWAY.
The Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo
do ordain as follows:-
SECTION 1. It shall be the duty of the driver
or operator of any vehicle while driving or operating
such vehicle along any public highway, to give a warn-
ing signal in the manner hereinafter prescribed before
turning to the left or right or stopping such vehicle,
or before making any sudden reduction in the speed of
travel of such vehicle.
Before turning to the left, the driver or op-
erator of any vehicle shall, if he is situated nearer
the left side of said vehicle than to the right, give
a signal of his intention to so turn by extending his
left arm horizontally beyond the left side of said ve-
hicle. If such driveris situated nearer the right side
of such vehicle than the left, he shall signal his in-
tention to turn to the left by extending his right arm
beyond the right side of 'such vehicle in a vertical man-
ner with the arm and hand pointed upward.
Before turning to the right on any public high-
way, the driver or operator of any vehicle shall, if
he is situated nearer the left side of such vehicle than
to the right,give a signal of his intention so to do by
extending his left arm beyond the left side of said ve-

hicle in a vertical manner with the hand and arm
pointed upward. If he is situated nearer the right
side of such vehicle than the left he shall, before
turning to the left, give a signal of his intention
so to do by extending his right arm beyond the right
side of such vehicle in a horizontal manner.
Before stopping any vehicle upon the pub-
lic highway, and before making any sudden reduction
in the speed of any such vehicle upon the highway,
the driver or operator thereof shall give a signal
of his intention so to do by extending his arm beyond
the side of the vehicle nearest which he is situated
having the hand and arm pointed downward.
SECTION 2. Any person violating the terms
of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a mis-
demeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punish-
able by a fine of not less than $5.00 nor more than
$50.00, or by imprisonment in the Jail of the City
of E1 Segundo for not more than fifty days or by both
such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to
the passage of this Ordinance, and shall cause the same
to be published once in the "E1 Segundo Herald", a
weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed,
published an& circulated within said City of E1 Segundo,
and which is hereby designated for that purpose.
This Ordinance shall take effect thirty days
after the final passage thereof.
