ORDINANCE 36ORDIi1ANCE NO. 36 AN ORDIN.UTCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, RELATING TO THE UM,1BERI!VG OF BUILDINGS AND PROVIDING FOR THE PUNISH - MENT OF THOSE WHO VIOLATE ITS PROVISIONS. The Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo do ordain as follows: SECTION I. All entrances from the public streets of the City of E1 Segundo, California, to buildings or structures within said city, shall be numbered as herein- after vrovided. The number of each and every such entrance shall be placed upon, or immediately above, the door or gate closing said entrance. Each figure of said number shall be at least two inches in height and of correspond- ing width. The appropriate number of any entrance to any building or structure shall be placed thereon as herein provided, within five days after the receipt by the owner, occupant, lessee, tenant, or sub - tenant of such building, of a notice from the City Clerk of said city, of the number or numbers designated for such building or struc- ture, and all numbers other than the numbers provided for in this Ordinance for sail respective entrances, shall be removed from every building by the owners, occupants, lessees, tenants, or sub - tenants thereof, within five days from the service of the said notice designating the appro- priate numbers to be placed thereon. It shall be the duty of the City O Prl to designate the respective numbers for buildings or struc- tures fronting on streets heretofore laid out, or hereafter - 1 - �i '�_' � to be laid out or extended, and which may at this time, or at any future time, be included within the present or future boundaries of said City of El Segundo. SECTION II. The following shall be the re- spective starting points or dividing lines on buildings or structures fronting on streets heretofore laid out, The street now Down as or hereafter to be laid out or extended, namely:^ Ballona Avenue Ashall be the starting point or dividing line for the street now known as all numbers from North to South-, and Main Street shall be the dividing line of all numbers from East to 'Wiest. Numbers shall begin at the above named starting points or dividing lines, and continue to the terminii of the respective streets. SECTION III. The numbers on the Northerly and Westerly sides of the streets shall be odd numbers, and the numbers on the Southerly and Easterly sides of the streets shall be even numbers. SECTION IV. A block, within the meaning of this Ordinance, shall be that portion of any street be- tween two cross streets, or between a cross street and an abutting street, or between two abutting streets. In cases of abutting streets, the prolonged center line of the abutting streets shall be the dividing line of the blocks, provided however, that all blocks exceeding one thousand feet in length shall be considered as two blocks, the dividing line being placed midway between the two ends of said blocks. SECTION V. One hundred numbers,or as many there- - 2 - of as may be necessary, shall be allotted to each block. No. 100 shall be the first number used at the respec- tive beginning points on the sides of the streets, which are to contain the even numbers, and No. 101 for the sides which are to contain the odd numbers. At the be- ginning of the second block from the starting point, the first numbers shall be 200 and 201 respectively, and so continue throughout the system. Twenty feet frontage shall be allowed for each number to be calculated from end of the block at which the number begins. On all streets, the numbering shall be done as if the streets extended to the dividing line of the city as defined in Section II of this Ordinance. SECTION VI. The City Clerk can certify to the passage of this Ordinance, and shall cause the same to be published once in the "E1 Segundo Herald ", a weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed, published and circulated within said city, and which is hereby designa- ted for that purpose. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force thirty days after the final passage thereof. Passed and approved this 29th day of May 1918.
