AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA,
REGULATING THE MAKING, CARRYING, BEEPING, POSSESS-
ING, SELLING AND DISCHARGING OF CERTAIN WEAPONS
AND DEVICES.
• The Board of Trustees of the City of El Segundo
do ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person,
firm or corporation to make, sell or expose for sale,
or to oause or permit to be made, sold or exposed for
sale, or to have possession of or keep any blackjack,
sand bag, b illie, slung shot, sling bat, or other
• similar weapon or device made of leather, metal, wood
or rubber, or any cross knuckles, or knuckles made of
any kind of metal, or any weapon or device which is
or may be used only in the commission of an unlawful
act; provided, however, that the provisions of this
section shall not apply to any police officer, sheriff,
deputy sheriff, constable, deputy constable, city
marshal or deputy city marshal.
SECTION 2. It shall be the duty of every city
marshal, deputy city marshal or police officer to seize
every weapon or device mentioned in Section 1 of this
ordinance found in the City of E1 Segundo except such
as are authorized by said Section 1 to have possession
thereof and to deliver the same at once to the city
marshal of said city. The city marshal shall hold such

weapon or device to be used as evidence against any per-
son, firm or corporation against whom any proceeding is
pending in any court if the same is needed ad evidence
in such proceeding.
SECTION 3. It shall be unlawful for any person
except the City Marshal or his deputies, or any other
peace officer, to wear or in any manner to carry con-
cealed upon his person, any dirk, bowie knife, sword
cane, loaded or unloaded gun, loaded or unloaded pistol,
loaded or unloaded revolver or any other dangerous or
deadly weapon without having at the same time actually
in his possession and upon his person an unexpired permit
so to do issued by the Board of Trustees of the said
City authorizing him to carry such weapon concealed.
SECTION 4. The Board of Trustees shall wave
power to issue to any person who, in the judgment of
the said Board, shall have such privilege, a permit in
writing to carry concealed any of the weapons specified
in Section 3 of this ordinance. Such permits shall be
numbered consecutively in the order in which they are
issued. No permit shall be granted for a longer period
than twelve months. Each such permit shall state the
name, address and occupation of the person to whom the
same is issued and the date of its expiration and shall
specify the kind and description of weapon authorized
to be carried concealed by such person. No permit shall
be issued by the Board of Trustees authorizing any person
to carry, keep or have possession of any weapon or device
mentioned in Section 1 of this ordinance except as in
said section provided.

SECTION 5. "It shall be and is hereby declared
to be unlawful for any person or persons to discharge or
use any pistol, shot gun, revolver, air gun, spring gun,
sling or other device for throwing stones, shot or metal
slugs within the limits of the City of El Segundo, without
a permit from the Board of Trustees of said City so to do.)
Any person desiring any permit provided for in this section
may make application therefor addressed to the Board of
Trustees of said City and shall specify therein the purpose
for which such applicant desires to use the weapon or in-
strument in said application referred to. Said application
shall be filed with the City Clerk of said City and shall
be presented by said Clerk to the Board of Trustees at the
next regular meeting of said Board held after the filing
of said application. The said Board of Trustees may,
at said meeting, grant such permit or refuse the same, in
their discretion. The City Clerk shall issue the permits
in this ordinance provided for, when the Board of Trustees
shall have authorized the same, upon the payment to said
Clerk of the sum of P Y4:9� d e^& therefor, said money
to be paid into the general fund of said City. No permit
shall be issued for a longer period than one year and all
permits issued hereunder shall be revocable at the pleasure
of the Board of Trustees. ,/
SECTION 69 Any person, firm or corporation violat-
ing any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall
be punishable by a fine of not less than Five ($5.00)
Dollars nor more than Two Hundred ($200.00) Dollars, or
by imprisonment for a period of not less than one (1)

day nor more than three (3) months or by both such fine
and imprisonment.
Any person, firm or corporation convicted of a
second violation of any of the provisions of this ordin-
ance shall be punishable by imprisonment for a period of
not less than ten days nor more than three months.
SECTION 7. This ordinance is an ordinance for the
immediate preservation of the public peace, health and
safety of the City of E1 Segundo and the facts constitut-
ing its urgency are declared to be as follows: That the
manufacture, sale, possession, use or discharge of any
of the weapons or devices herein referred to is a menace
to the safety of the citizens of said City and therefore
this ordinance is urgently required for the immediate pre-
servation of the public peace, health and safety of said
City; for which reason the same shall take effect
immediately upon final passage thereof.
SECTION B. The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage of this ordinance and shall cause the same to
be published by one insertion in the E1 Segundo Herald,
a weekly newspaper of general circulation printed,pub-
lished and circulated within the said City of E1 Segundo,
California, and which is hereby designated for that
purpose.
