AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA,
PROVIDING CERTAIN REGULATIONS FOR THE MOVING AND
REMOVAL OF BUILDINGS v� ITH IN SAID CITY.
The Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo
do ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person,
firm or corporation to move, or to cause to be moved,
any building, or any section or portion of any building,
over, upon, along or across any public street, alley
or other public place, without first obtaining a permit
in writing from the Board of Trustees so to do, in the
manner provided by this ordinance. Any person, firm or
corporation desiring to move, or to cause to be moved,
any building, or any section or portion of any building,
over, upon, along or across any public street, alley or
other public place, shall fi r2t file a written applica-
tion v4ith the Board of Trustees, specifying the kind of
building to be moved, the location of same, the location
to which and the route and the length of the route over
or along which such building and each section or portion
of such building is to be moved, the number of sections
in which the building will be moved, and the time within
which such removal will be completed. The length of such
route shall be obtained from and entered upon the applica-
tion by the City Engineer. Upon the approval of such
application by the Board of Trustees, it shall, at the
expiration of twenty -four hours after the filing of such
application, issue a permit or permits for the moving of
the building, or the sections or portions thereof, men-
tioned in such application. Whenever any building is

divided into two or more sections or portions and is so
moved over, upon, along or across any public street,
alley or other public place, a separate permit shall be
issued for the moving of each section or portion of such
building. No permit shall authorize the moving of more
than one building, or more than one section or portion
of any building in any case where any building is to
be moved in two or more sections or portions. Every such
permit shall become and be void unless such removal shall
be completed within the time specified in the application
for such permit; provided, however, that the Board of
Trustees may extend such time when the moving of any build-
ing, or any section or portion thereof, is rendered im-
practicable by reason of inclemency of the weather.
SECTION 2. No permit shall be issued for the re-
moval of any building, or any section or portion of any
building, over, upon, along or across any public street,
alley or other public place, until the applicant therefor
shall h ave paid to the Board of Trustees of the City of
E1 Segundo the sum of � oo for such permit, and

such building, or section or portion thereof, as stated
in such application, and shall have deposited with the

said Board of Trustees a special deposit of
for the first one hundred lineal feet, or fraction there-
of, of the route over or along which such building, or
each section or portion of any building, is to be moved,
and the further sum of ,� for each succeeding one
hundred lineal feet, or fraction thereof, of such route
that is paved with asphalt or brick, and Z &4FW
for each succeeding one hundred lineal feet, orfraction

thereof, of such route that is not so paved. Any person,
firm or corporation intending to engage in the business
of moving houses over, upon, along or across public
streets, alleys or other public places may make and
maintain with the said Board of Trustees a general
deposit in the sum of $ �D 5� 0 , which general depos-
it shall be used for the same purpose as the special
deposits mentioned hereinbefore in this section, and while
such general deposit is maintained at the said sun of
.50 _ , such person, firm or corporation shall
not be required to make the special deposits hereinbefore
in this section provided for, but shall be required to
file a written application for a permit for the removal
of any building, or any section or portion of any building,
as in this ordinance provided, and to comply with all of
the other provisions of this ordinance.
SECTION 3. Every building and every section or
portion of any building, moved over, upon, along or
across any public street, alley or other public place,
shall be moved under inspection by and supervision of the
Board of Trustees. The said Board may appoint the Street
Superintendent as an inspector for the removal of any
building, and of each section or portion of any building.
SECTION 49 It shall be the duty of any person,
firm or corporation to whom any permit is issued. for
the removal of any building, or any section or portion of
any building, pursuant to this ordinance, when required
by the said Board of Trustees, to cause boards of sufficient
strength to carry the load without breaking to be placed
under all of the rolls or wheels to serve as a runway for
such rolls or wheels during the removal of such building,

or any section or portion thereof, along every street,
alley or other public place improved in any other manner
than by asphalt or brick, and at no time shall such
rolls or wheels be permitted to revolve except upon such
board runway when the same is required by the said Board
of Trustees. In case of damage to any public street,
alley or other public place by reason of the moving of any
building, or any section or portion thereof, the Board
of Trustees shall do such work as may be necessary to
restore such street, alley or other public place to as
good a condition as the same was in prior to such damaging
of the same, and shall charge the cost thereof to the
person, firm or corporation to whom the permit was issued
for the moving of such building, or section or portion
thereof.
SECTION 5. The said city shall deduct from the
deposit made as required by this ordinance the cost of
the services of the Street Superintendent at the rate

of — per day, and the cost of repairs, if any,
made by the Board of Trusteee, pursuant to this ordinance,
and 4 w � for each day that such building, or any
section or portion thereof, shall have occupied any por-
tion of any public street, alley or other public place,
and the remainder of such deposit, if there be any re-
mainder, shall be refunded to the person, firm or corpor-
ation making such deposit, or to his or its assigns. In
case the deposit made pursuant to this ordinance shall
not be sufficient to pay the cost of the services of such
Street Superintendent and the cost of such repairs and

section, the person, firm or corporation to whom such

permit is issued shall, upon demand, pay to the
Board of Trustees a sufficient sum to cover all such
costs. Upon failure to pay such sum the same may be
recovered by the City of El Segundo in any court of
competent jurisdiction.
SECTION 6. All moneys refunded pursuant to
the provisions of this ordinance shall be paid upon
demands audited and paid in the same manner as other
demands against the city are audited and paid.
SECTION 7. It shall be unlawful for any per-
son, firm or corporation moving or causing to be moved
any building, or any section or portion of any build-
ing , over, upon, along or across any public street,
alley or other public place, to fail, refuse or neglect
to keep a red light burning at all times between sunset
and sunrise at each corner of such building and at each
corner of each such section or portion of any building
while the same, or any portion thereof, is located in
or upon any public street, alley or other public place.
SECTION 8. That any person, firm or corpora-
tion violating any of the provisions of this ordinance
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon con-
viction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of not

and imprisonment.
SECTION 9. The City Clerk shall certify to
the passage of this ordinance and shall cause the same

to be published by one insertion in the E1 Segundo
Herald, a weekly newspaper of general circulation,
printed, published and circulated within the said City
of El Segundo, California, and which is hereby designat-
ed for that purpose, and thereupon and thereafter the
'same shall take effect and be in full force.
