A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL
SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING THE CALIFORNIA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION RECOMMENDED SPEED
LIMITS FOR SEPULVEDA BOULEVARD BETWEEN EL SEGUNDO
BOULEVARD AND ROSECRANS AVENUE AND SEPULVEDA
BOULEVARD BETWEEN IMPERIAL HIGHWAY AND EL SEGUNDO
BOULEVARD IN THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO.
WHEREAS, the California Vehicle Code requires, as a
prerequisite to radar speed enforcement, that a traffic
engineering speed zone survey be conducted at intervals not
greater than five years, demonstrating that the speed limit is
appropriately posted and that the jurisdictional agency is not
maintaining a "speed trap "; and,
WHEREAS, Sepulveda Boulevard within the City of E1 Segundo is
a State Highway and, while the traffic control devices are
installed and maintained by the California Department of
Transportation, traffic enforcement is provided by the El Segundo
Police Department; and,
WHEREAS, previously performed speed surveys are five years
old and, accordingly, the courts will not sustain excessive speed
citations until new speed zone surveys are adopted by the City;
and,
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation has

prepared speed zone surveys for Sepulveda Boulevard and has
requested that the Council adopt the recommended speed limits;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City
of El Segundo
approves the recommendations of the California
Department of
Transportation, by the adoption of this resolution,
as follows:
1. The speed limit on Sepulveda
Boulevard between El Segundo Boulevard
and Rosecrans Avenue will be 45 m.p.h.,
as is currently posted; and,
2. The speed limit on Sepulveda
Boulevard between Imperial Highway and E1
Segundo Boulevard will be 40 m.p.h., as

SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and
adoption of this resolution; shall enter the same in the book of
original resolutions of said city; and shall make a minute of the
passage and adoption thereof in the record of the proceedings of
the City Council of said city, in the minutes of the meeting at
which the same is passed and adopted.
