CC RESOLUTION 3236RESOLUTION NO. 3236 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF RELICENSING OF HYDROELECTRIC PROJECTS TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY (FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISSION PROJECT NOS. 1388 & 1389) WHEREAS, Southern California Edison Company has over the past eighty _years developed a safe, reliable, and economic system of hydroelectric generating facilities; and WHEREAS, efforts are being made by certain municipal entities to secure for themselves two Southern California Edison hydroelectric power projects on Rush and Lee Vining Creeks through applications to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (hereinafter referred to as FERC); and WHEREAS, it would be directly contrary to the best interests of the citizens of the City of El Segundo if FERC were to cut out of the Southern California Edison hydroelectric generating system either of the following two facilities: 1. Rush Creek Project (Project No. 1389), which is located near June Lake on the Eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada, about 60 miles north of Bishop, California. 2. Poole Project (Project No. 1388), which is located on Lee Vining Creek also north of Bishop; and WHEREAS, the continued ownership, operating and improvement of its hydroelectric generating facilities by Southern California Edison is essential to the public interest and to the social and economic well being of the people of southern and central California. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of El Segundo hereby urges and requests that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission promptly relicense these hydroelectric facilities to Southern California Edison Company, and to reject the applica- tions of the municipally -run utilities; and SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of El Segundo hereby requests that hearings concerning Southern California Edison Company's hydro relicensing applications be conducted 1413'.' in the service territory of Southern California Edison Company where the projects are located and the public they were built to serve lives and works; and SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution; shall enter the same in the book of original resolutions of said city; and shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the records of the proceedings of the City Council of said city in the minutes of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted; and SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall provide copies of this resolution to: The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, The California Public Utilities Commission, Appropriate members of the United States Congress, Appropriate members of the California Legislature, and the Southern California Edison Company.
