CC RESOLUTION 315013 X34 RESOLUTION NO. 3150 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, URGING THE LOS ANGELES OLYMPIC COMMITTEE TO ADOPT THE 1932 OLYMPIC MARATHON COURSE FOR USE IN THE 1984 OLYMPIC GAMES. WHEREAS, the marathon is one of the summer Olympics most popular and exciting competitive events; and WHEREAS, the communities through which an Olympic marathon course is run should be supportive of the sport; and WHEREAS, the City of El Segundo has demonstrated such support in the past by virtue of its cooperation and assistance in the conduct of the L.A. Women's marathon as well as several ten kilometer runs in the city; and WHEREAS, the City of E1 Segundo has sent a water polo team, swimmers and a volleyball player to compete in previous Olympic Games; and Whereas, the summer Olympics of 1932 held in Los Angeles included a marathon event whose course covered much of southwest Los Angeles county, including E1 Segundo; and WHEREAS, traditionally and historically it is beneficial to the Olympics as well as the communities in which they are held to maintain continuity with past Olympics; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, hereby urges the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee to utilize the 1932 summer Olympic marathon course in the upcoming 1984 Los Angeles Olympic games, and directs the City Clerk to forward certified copies of this resolution to: Mr. Peter V. Ueberroth, President, Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, Los Angeles, California 90084; Board of Supervisors, Los Angeles County, 500 W. Temple Street, Los Angeles, California 90012; and Mr. R. Kenneth Jue, City Manager, City of Hawthorne, 4455 West 126th Street, Hawthorne, California 90250.
