CC RESOLUTION 2463RESOLUTION NO. 2463 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE TO RECONSIDER ITS DECISION RE- GARDING THE BLACKOUT OF THE SUPER BOWL FOOTBALL GAME, AND EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT OF SUPERVISOR KENNETH HAHN IN HIS OPPOSITION TO THIS BLACKOUT. WHEREAS, the National Football League has determined that the Super Bowl football game shall not be broadcast in certain counties of Southern California; and WHEREAS, the said Super Bowl game will be broadcast on public television in all other counties in California; and facility; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Coliseum is a publicly owned WHEREAS, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, as a member of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission, has vigorously opposed this blackout on behalf of the public in Southern Cali- fornia; and WHEREAS, few, if any, tickets will be available to Southern California residents because of the many season ticket holders that will be given first preference; and WHEREAS, this City Council views the blackout as an un- necessary and discriminatory action against the citizens of Southern Cali- fornia; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, requests the National Football League to reconsider its action in prohibiting television broadcasting of the Super Bowl game; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, commends and supports Supervisor Kenneth Hahn in his opposition to this blackout of the Super Bowl game and encourages his continuing opposition to the blackout; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, endorses Senate Bill 4010 which provides for live home television reception of major professional sporting events when the events are sold out forty -eight hours prior to their scheduled beginning; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby instructed to forward copies of this resolution to United States Senators Alan Cranston and John V. Tunney, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, the National Football League, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission and the League of California Cities.
