RESOLUTION NO. 2214
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, REQUEST-
ING THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES TO UNDER-
TAKE PRELIMINARY DRAINAGE STUDIES IN CER-
TAIN AREAS WITHIN THE CITIES OF EL SEGUNDO
AND MANHATTAN BEACH.
WHEREAS, drainage areas common to the Cities of E1 Segundo,
Hawthorne, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach and the County of Los
Angeles are subject to flooding and the inundation of public streets and
private properties; and
WHEREAS, a master drainage plan has not been developed for
the area bounded by Rosecrans Avenue, Aviation Boulevard, Marine
Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard in the City of Manhattan Beach which
covers 320 acres which area is partially under development with total
development in the future a potential; and
WHEREAS, the City of El Segundo's master plan of drainage
contemplates draining an area of approximately 700 acres, generally
bounded by Sepulveda Boulevard, Douglas Street, Maple Avenue and
Rosecrans Avenue, into a future drainage structure in Rosecrans
Avenue; and
WHEREAS, it is essential for future development of the afore-
said areas that a master drainage plan be developed that would
accommodate the storm waters of contiguous governmental agencies in
these areas; and
WHEREAS, the development of drainage plans for these areas
is of county -wide concern and the development of a regional storm
drain would be appropriately included in any future storm drain bond
issue; and
WHEREAS, it is essential that preliminary drainage studies
be undertaken without delay and in anticipation of storm drain bond issues
that may be presented to the electorate within the near future;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, as follows:
SECTION 1. That the County of Los Angeles be requested to
undertake preliminary drainage studies for the entire areas as described
herein and a regional type drainage system be proposed in anticipation
of any future storm drain bond issue to be presented to the electorate.
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be sent to the City
of Manhattan Beach for its information and to the Cities of Hawthorne

and Redondo Beach requesting that they adopt a similar resolution.
SECTION 3. That a copy of this resolution be transmitted
to the Honorable Burton W. Chace, Supervisor of the Fourth Supervisorial
District of Los Angeles County, urging that these studies be made.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage
and adoption of this Resolution; shall enter the same in the book of
original resolutions of said city; and shall make a minute of the passage
and adoption thereof in the records of the proceedings of the City Council
of said city, in the minutes of the meeting at which the same is passed
and adopted.
