CC RESOLUTION 211810'1,1
RESOLUTION NO. 2118
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORT-
ING THE REAPPORTIONMENT AS ORDERED BY
THE SUPREME COURT AND OPPOSING ANY
LEGISLATION CONTRARY THERETO.
WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court by recent
decision has ruled that the legislature of the State of California, and
other states, whether bicameral or not, must be entirely selected on
a proportionate basis relating solely to population; and
WHEREAS, there is a concerted effort by certain vested
interests to deny to the people of this State the benefits of the reappor-
tionment efforts that are being made to carry out this mandate on re-
apportionment; and
WHEREAS, the determination of the Supreme Court is the
result of a most careful evaluation of all the arguments and presenta-
tion of all the facts related to this issue and is a profound finding of
that which is right and consistent with our form of government;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DOES FIND, DETERMINE AND
RESOLVE, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That every effort should be made to support
the proposed fair and equitable reapportionment in the election of our
legislature and in compliance with the determination of the United
States Supreme Court as well as in the furtherance of good government.
SECTION 2. That certified copies of this resolution be sent
to the Honorable Edmund G. Brown, Governor of the State of California;
to Glenn M. Anderson, Lieutenant Governor; to Thomas M. Rees, Sena-
