A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, URGING
THAT TERRITORY OF AN INCORPORATED CITY
NOT BE DIVIDED AMONG TWO OR MORE SENA-
TORIAL DISTRICTS.
WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court has required
that all State legislative bodies must be apportioned substantially upon
the basis of population; and
WHEREAS, a three - member Federal Court has heretofore
ordered that the State Senate of the State of California, be reapportioned
on a population basis by July 1, 1965; and
WHEREAS, the State Senate of the State of California and
various other state officials are now considering the manner in which
a
such reapportionment should be carried out;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council

of the City of E1 Segundo that it is not believed to be in the public interest
to divide the territory of any incorporated city among two or more sena-
torial districts and it is recommended that in effectuating such reappor-
tionment of the California State Senate that the territorial integrity of
incorporated cities be preserved by placing the entire territory of each
such incorporated city entirely within one senatorial district;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution
be forwarded to the Honorable Edmund G. Brown, Governor of the State
of California, to Glenn M. Anderson, President of the Senate; to Jesse
M. Unruh, Speaker of the House; to Thomas M. Rees, Senator of the
State of California; to Don A. Allen, Sr., Alfred H. Song, George E.
Danielson, John L. E. Collier and Charles Edward Chapel, Assembly-
men of the State of California; to the League of California Cities; and
to all cities in the County of Los Angeles.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 8th day of March,
