CC RESOLUTION 18432?A 3 RESOLUTION NO. 1843 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DEFINING POLICY GOVERNING ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS FOR THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS, EXAMII4ATIOTIS FOR PRalOTIONS',VITHIN SAID DEPARTMENTS, AND REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 1674 OF SAID COUNCIL. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DOES BEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the following will be the policy govern- ing entrance examinations for the Police and Fire Departments, and examinations for promition within the two departments: For entrance into the two departments a written exam- ination will be ,given which will carry a weight of 25;0 regardless of the grade attained over and above the pass- ing mark of 70'. An oral examination will be given by an oral boara which will carry a maximum weight of 75i 'j• When a recruit has successfully passed his written and oral examination his relative standing on the eligibility list will be determined by the oral board. Selections from this eligibility list will be made by the Chiefs of the two departments from any of the top three on the list. Procedures for Promotional Examinations - Fire De- partment: The completion of the written examination with a passing grade will entitle each applicant for promotion to 40 grade points. An oral board will then conduct an oral examination and a performance examination of each ap- plicant for engineer and oral only for applicants for cap- tain. Both of these will carry a maximum rate of 30'x°0, for each examination. Arhen no performance examination is given, the oral examination will rate a maximum of 60 ,grade points. - 1 - 9244 Procedures of Promotional Examinations - Police Department: The successful passage of the written exami- nation in this department will entitle the applicant to 40 grade points. An oral examination with the maximum weight of 60 will be conducted by an oral board on which the rela- tive standing of applicants will be determined on the eli- gibility list. Selection for promotion in either department by either of the two Chiefs will be made from any of the top three. If a Chief decides to pass over an employee for promotion and selects someone on the list below him, the person who has been passed over may within five days make an appeal to an appeal board to be composed of the Mayor, one Coun- cilman appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council and the City PTanager. The decision of the Appeal Board will be final. The eligibility lists for entrance into both depart- ments will be effective for one year. The eligibility list for promotion in both depart- ments will be effective for two years. SECTION 2. That Resolution No. 1674, passed and adopted on the 13th day of November, 1956, shall be, and the same is here- by, repealed. SECTION 3. That this resolution shall take effect and be in full force and virtue on and after the date of its adoption. SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution; shall enter the same in the book of original resolutions cf said city; and shall make a minute of the passage and adoption tnereof in the records of the proceedings of the City Council of said city in the minutes of the - 2 - 9245 meeting; at which the same is passed and adopted.
