A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AWARDING
TO P. E. VAN PELT, INC. A CERTAIN CONTRACT
OR ORDER FOR THE FURNISHING OF A CERTAIN
FIRE ENGINE AND APPURTENANCES TO SAID CITY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of El Segundo,
California, has heretofore in the manner provided by law, duly
and regularly advertised for bids under a notice to bidders en-
titled "NOTICE INVITING BIDS ON FIRE ENGINE FOR CITY OF EL SE-
GUNDO ", dated January 12, 1955, which is now on file in the
office of the City Clerk, open to public inspection, and hereby
referred to and by this reference incorporated herein and made a
part hereof, for furnishing one certain fire engine and appur-
tenances to said City; and
WHEREAS, at the time fixed for opening and considering
said bids, to wit: the hour of 7:00 o *clock P. M., on Wednesday,
the 2nd day of February, 1955, said Council did publicly open,
examine and declare all bids received and did refer all of said
bids to the City Administrative Officer, the Fire Chief and Ga-
rage Supervisor for investigation and report thereon at the next
regular meeting of said Council to be held February 9, 1955; and
WHEREAS, said last mentioned date has now arrived and
said Administrative Officer, in concurrence with the Fire Chief
and Garage Supervisor, has reported and recommends to said Coun-
cil that P. E. Van Pelt, Inc., the low bidder under said notice
inviting bids, be awarded the contract for furnishing said fire
engine and appurtenances to said City; and
WHEREAS, said Council concurs in the report and recom-
mendation of said City Administrative Officer and has reached its
decision in the said matter;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SE-
GUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE AND DETERMINE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the bid of P. E. VAN PELT, INC., of
Oakdale, California, dated January 28, 1955, (the low bid) which
said Council determines to be substantially as follows, to wit:

Gentlemen:
Pursuant to your request for quotations on supplying your
City with fire apparatus as per your specifications re-
ceived by us Jan. 14, 1955, bids to be opened February 2,
1955, we respectfully submit the following:
Equipment as outlined in our specifications enclosed, we
are pleased to quote you a net price of - - - - -- $14,391.50
plus California State Sales Tax in the amount
of--- #431.75
making a total of ------ ------ ------ ---- - - - - -- 414,$23.25
f.o.b. your community.
The above bid to be on the GMC Chassis.
The enclosed bid bond, in theaPnount of $1,500.00, will
substantiate these quotations, and we agree to supply re-
quested performance bond at time order is placed.
As to delivery on this apparatus: there is a limited num-
ber of the GMC Chassis which will be available to us in
time to meet your May 2 delivery deadline.
Furthermore: it will be necessary for us to allow from 60
to 75 days for the construction of the apparatus after
chassis is received.
At this writing, we have in stock, subject to prior sale,
a GMC Chassis of the type specified and will be able to de-
liver the completed apparatus on that chassis and meet your
deadline with the exception of the power steering, which
will be deleted from your billing upon delivery, and added
to your truck at a later date, and be billed at that time.
Trusting all the above meets with your approval, and that we
may be awarded this valued order, we are

and which said bid was in accordance with "SPECIFICATIONS FOR
TRUCK CHASSIS TO BE USED IN ASSEMBLING A TRIPLE COMBINATION MOTOR
PUMPING ENGINE FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALI-
FORNIA", which specify that delivery of said apparatus and equip-
ment will be made on or before May 2, 1955, and was submitted in
response to and under the terms,conditions, provisions and re-
quirements set forth in the "NOTICE INVITING BIDS ON FIRE ENGINE
FOR CITY OF EL SEGUNDO. ", be, and the same is hereby accepted as
hereinabove set forth and determined in the above quoted bid,
which is now on file in the office of the City Clerk of said City,
and which said bid so on file is hereby expressly referred to and
by this reference incorporated herein and made a part hereof for
all further particulars.
SECTION 2. The Contractor agrees, responsive to the
preference of the City Council of said City as expressed in the
notice inviting bids, pursuant to which this contract is made, that
only American -made materials, and, so far as reasonably possible,
California -made materials will be used in the work or improvement
contemplated under this contract, all in conformity with the pro-
visions of Sections 4300 to 4305, both inclusive, and Sections
4330 to 4334, both inclusive, of the Government Code of the State
of California.
SECTION 3. The Contractor, insofar as said Contractor
is legally required so to do, must observe and abide by the provi-
sions of all laws of the State of California and of the United
States of America relating to contracts of the nature contemplated
herein, whether herein specifically mentioned or not.
SECTION 4. That all bids received for the furnishing
of said fire engine and appurtenances are hereby rejected with the
exception of the bid of P. E. VAN PELT, INC., hereinabove referred
to, and the City Clerk is hereby authorized and instructed to re-
turn the checks of all unsuccessful bidders.

SECTION 5. That the City Clerk shall prepare copies of
this resolution after the passage and adoption thereof, and shall
affix to such copies at the end thereof, after the Clerk +s certifi-
cate, forms for the approval of the successful bidder and on the
part of the said City; and such copies of this resolution, so ap-
proved and accepted by the successful bidder and by and on behalf
of said City, shall constitute the contract for furnishing ore cer-
tain fire engine and appurtenances for the Fire Department of said
City, pursuant to the award hereinabove made; and the Mayor of the
City of E1 Segundo is hereby authorized on behalf of said City to
affix the approval and acceptance of said City to such contract,
and said City Clerk is hereby authorized and instructed to attest
the same on behalf of said City and to affix the seal of said City
thereto.
SECTION 6. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this resolution; shall cause the original
of the same to be entered in the book of resolutions of the said
City of E1 Segundo, and shall make a minute of the passage and
adoption thereof in the records of the proceedings of the City
Council of said City, in the minutes of the meeting at which the
same is passed and adopted.
Passed, approved and adopted this 9th day of February,
1955.
