A RESOLUTIOIN OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AWARDING TO W. S.
ROWLAND A CERTAIN CONTRACT OR ORDER FOR THE
FURNISHING OF A TRAILER MOUNTED WOOD AND
BRUSH CHIPPER TO SAID CITY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of El Segundo,
California, has heretofore in the manner provided by law, duly
and regularly advertised for bids under a notice to bidders
entitled, "NOTICE I \1VITING BIDS FOR THE FURNISHING OF A TRAILER
MOUNTED WOOD AND BRUSH CHIPPER TO THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALI-
FORNIA.", dated November 3, 1954, which is now on file in the
office of the City Clerk, open to public inspection, and here-
by referred to and by this reference incorporated 'herein and
made a part hereof, for furnishing said City a trailer mounted
wood and brush chipper; and
WHEREAS, at the time fixed for opening and consider -
ing said bids, to wit: the hour of 7:00 o'clock P. M., on Wednes-
day, the lst day of December, 1954, said Council did publicly
open, examine and declare all bids received; and
WHEREAS, at said hour said Council did take all of
said bids under consideration until the next re,<,ular meetin, of
said Council to be held December 8, 1954, and referred the same
to the City Administrative Officer for investigation and report;
and
WHEREAS, at the regular meeting of December 8. 1954,
said Council did take the bids under further consideration until
its regular meeting to be held December 15, 1954; and
WHEREAS, said last above mentioned date has now ar-
rived and the City Administrative Officer has reported the bid

of W. S. Rowland as being the low bid on the equipment best
suited to the needs and requirements of said City, and recom-
mends that the contract or order be awarded to said W. S. Row-
land; and
WHEREAS, the said Council accepts the recommendation
made by said City Administrative Officer and feels that the ac-
tion hereinafter taken is in the best interest of said City;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL
SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE AND DETERMINE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the bid of W. S. ROWLAND. of 1174
North Mentor Avenue, Pasadena 6, California, dated December 1,
1954, which said Council determines to be substantially as fol-
lows, to wit:

"In accordance with your invitation to bid we sub-
mit the following, price & specifications for a 12 inch by
9 inch Asplur:dh Wood and Brush Chipper.
"Specifications as per the attached printed sheet
are "uaranteed as part and parcel of this bid.
"Also inclosed for your information is a Parts &
Price List and a Brochure showing pictures of the machine.
"The intake opening; of this Chipper is 12 inches
wide by .9 inches high - 108 square inches of intake onpr-
ing. The machine will successfully chip wood up to 8 -1/2
inches in diameter.
"Delivery time is 21 days from our receipt of do-
tice of Award.
"As noted on the printed specifications your closest
dealer for Chipper Parts is Ralph E. Bishop - P.O. Box
870, Whittier, Calif.
"Item 'f' of the printed specifications equips the
wheels with 7:00 xx 15 8 ply truck tires to meet your re-
quirements.

"The Asplundh Chipper has the following exclusive
features which reduce engine wear and smooth out the cut-
ting operation.

3. Also the exclusive tapered blades and
blade wedges give the most positive
locking action in any wood chipper.
This is an important safety feature.

a. Housing - Straight Carbon Steel Weldment -
33" wide x 31" long x 24" high, machined to
receive the Cylinder, Cutter Bar, Pressure
Plate, End Plates, Cover Plates, and Bolts
for attachment.
b. End Plates - 2 - Gray Iron Castings, mac hined
to permit fastening of Cover Plates, and to
encase the Bearings.
C. Cover Plates - 2 - Gray Iron Castings, machined
to Permit fasteninj to the End Plates, and for
through extension of the Cylinder Journals.

unchanged for any Chipper delivered to the City of'
El Segundo in accordance with Bid submitted Decem-
ber 1, 1954.

and which said bid was submitted in response to and under the
terms, conditions, provisions and requirements set forth in
said "NOTICE, IINITING BIDS FOR THE FURNISHING OF A TRAILER
MOUNTED WOOD AND BRUSH CHIPPER TO `.I'HE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALI-
FORNIA. ", be and the same is hereby accepted for a trailer
mounted wood and brush chipper as set forth in said notice in-
vitin -; bids, at the total price of ;2,987.00; and the contract
or purchase order for said equipment is hereby awarded tc� said
W. S. R0 ,A7LAND. In the event that immediate delivery of said
equipment can be made, a purchase order may be issued therefor,
and in such case it will not be necessary to execute avid deliver
a formal contract. Said bid is now on file in the office of
the City Clerk of said City, and said. bid so on file is hereby
expressly referred to and by this reference incorporated here-
in and made a part hereof for all further particulars.
SECTION 2. That all bids received under said notice
invitin; bids, with the exception of the said bid of W. S.
4CWLAND, be and the same are hereby rejected; and the City
Clerk is hereby authorized and instructed to return the checks
of all unsuccessful bidders.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this resolution; shall cause the ori9;i-
nal of the same to be entered in the book of resolutions of

the said City of El Sefiundo, and shall make a minute of the
Passage and adoption thereof in the records of the proceedin;rs
of the City Council of said City, in the minutes of the meet-
in? at which the same is passed and adopted.
Passed, approved and adopted this 15th day of Decem-

of said City, all at a regular meeting of the said Council
held on the 15th day of December, 1954, and that the same was
so passed and adopted by the following vote:
