CC RESOLUTION 1457RESOLUTION NO. 1457.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AND CON-
CURRING IN THE FINDINGS AND DETERMINATONS OF
THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION WITH REFERENCE
TO "FURNITURE REPAIR AND RECOVERING CUSTOM
WORK" AND THE CLASSIFICATION THEREOF NOT
SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED IN THE ZONING ORDINANCE
OF SAID CITY, AND AS SET FORTH IN RESOLUTION
NO. 200 OF SAID COMMISSION.
WHEREAS, the City Planning Commission of the City of El
Segundo, California, did at the regular meeting of said Commis-
sion held on the 8th day of November, 1954, adopt the following
resolution of said Commission, to wit:
"RESOLUTION NO. 200
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY PLANNING COM-
MISSION OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, INTERPRETING THE CLASSIFI-
CATION OF FURNITURE CUSTOM REPAIRING
AND RECOVERING AS A C -2 USE
WHEREAS, the City of El Segundo, California, has,
within recent months, adopted a new Zoning Ordinance
known as Ordinance No. 434, and
WHEREAS, in considering the proper classification
of certain uses in the C -2 Zone, it was the purpose of
the Commission to group together such uses as were com-
patible, and which had comparable characteristics, and
WHEREAS, the Commission fully recognizes that all
compatible uses could not be specifically enumerated in
a zone and that some means should be incorporated within
the Ordinance by which omission could be rectified, and
adopted as a part of the Zoning Ordinance that section
known as Section 1402 of Article 14 whereby, after ascer-
taining all facts concerning a particular use, the Com-
mission could recommend to the City Council its inclusion
in a particular zone, and
WHEREAS, it has been called to the attention of the
Commission that custom repairing and recovering of furni-
ture is a use not specifically included in any zone but
that upholstery shops as such are included in the C -M
Zone, thereby precluding any degree of such use from being
established in a lighter zone unless specifically permitted,

e 'c 419
"NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Commission
finds as follows:
1. That the repairing and recovering of furniture
on a custom basis involves no more storage of commodities
than does plumbing shops, shoe repair shops and optical
establishments, which are permitted in a C -2 Zone.
2. That in conducting a furniture repairing and re-
covering shop, equipment and machinery used therein is no
heavier, if as heavy, as that permitted in shoe repair
shops or optical establishments.
3. That, if the use is permitted in a C -2 zone under
the same limitations as are applied to other permissible
uses in such zones, the repairing and recovering of furni-
ture on a custom basis is not more obnoxious or hazardous
or injurious to its neighbors than are others now specifi-
cally permitted in a C -2 Zone, and
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Planning Commission recom-
mend to the City Council, for the reasons cited, 'furniture
repair and recovering custom work' be considered as an item
in the permitted list of uses under the C -2 classification,
and
FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be
forwarded to the City Council for its attention in the man-
ner prescribed by law, and
FINALLY RESOLVED, that in the event of concurrence in
such recommendations by the City Council, that all offici-
als of the City be directed to conform thereto in their ad-
ministrative acts in the same manner as though said use was
specified in Section 900 of Article 9 of Ordinance No. 434
of the City of El Segundo, California.
Passed, approved and adopted this 8th day of November,
1954.
