RESOLUTION NO. 1379
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING
THE FINDINGS AND DETERMINATIONS OF THE
CITY PLANNING COMMISSION OF SAID CITY AS
SET FORTH IN RESOLUTION NO. 176 OF SAID
C0144ISSION THAT THE USE OF "ALUMINUM
CASTING" BE CLASSIFIED A ZONE "M -1" USE,
WHEN CONDUCTED AS DESCRIBED AND LIMITED
IN SAID RESOLUTION NO. 176.
WHEREAS, the City Planning Commission of the City of
E1 Segundo did heretofore on the 11th day of January, 1954,
after due consideration, adopt Resolution No. 176 of said Com-
mission in words and figures as follows;
"RESOLUTION NO. 176
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY PLANNING COM-
MISSION OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO,
CALIFORNIA, RECOMMENDING THAT ALUMINUM
CASTING OPERATIONS, WHEN CONFORMING TO
THE CONDITIONS AS SET FORTH IN PLANNING
COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 222 BE CLAS-
SIFIED AS AN M -1 USE.
WHEREAS, there appeared before the Planning
Commission on January 11, 1954, Mr. A. C. McKnight, of
1740$ Elgar Avenue, Torrance, California, for permis-
sion to operate an aluminum foundry in an M -1 zone, and
WHEREAS, on January 12, 1948, in the matter of
the application for variance to operate an aluminum foun-
dry in an M -1 zone by Arvid D. Hoxie, the Commission,
after thorough investigation of subject matter, did pass
Resolution No. 22, granting said variance under specified
conditions, and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 22 limited the foundry
activities to aluminum only; limited the amount of alumi-
num smelted to three hundred fifty (350) pounds each day;
and required that the firing be done by electricity or
gas, and
WHEREAS, the present applicant in question tes-
tified his proposed operation would satisfy the above
mentioned conditions, and
WHEREAS, time has proved that an aluminum foun-
dry operating under above conditions, and fulfilling

other operating requirements of law, is compatible with
other uses now permitted in an M -1 zone, and
WHEREAS, Paragraph A, Use, Section 12 of Or-
dinance 306, provides where any use is omitted from the
lists of those specified as permissible under various
zones, the Planning Commission shall ascertain all per-
tinent facts and render its findings, which findings and
recommendations, when approved by the City Council, shall
thereafter prevail,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that as a re-
sult of facts presented, the Commission recommends that
the application in question be granted, and
FURTHER RESOLVED, that all similar aluminum
casting operations, when determined by the Commission to
conform to aforesaid conditions, be classified as an M -1
use, and
FINALLY RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution
be forwarded to the City Council for its consideration
and action, and if concurred in by said Council, that ap-
propriate officers authorized to issue licenses and per-
mits be informed and instructed accordingly.
Passed, approved and adopted this 11th day of
January, 1954.

WHEREAS, said resolution was duly certified to the
City Council of said City for its consideration and action
thereon, all as contemplated under the provisions of Ordinance
No. 306 (the land use plan - Zoning Ordinance) of said City,
as amended; and
WHEREAS, said City Council has duly and carefully con-
sidered and discussed the said resolution and all of the terms,
conditions and provisions thereof and is satisfied that the de-
termination and decision made by said City Council, with ref-
erence thereto as hereinafter set forth, is correct and in the
interests of said City and of the citizens thereof; now, there-
fore, -

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA,
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE, FIND AND ORDER AS FOL-
LOWS:
SECTION 1. Said Council does hereby find that the
facts recited in the preamble of this resolution are true.
SECTION 2. That said City Council does hereby ap-
prove the findings, determinations and recommendations of the
City Planning Commission of the City of E1 Segundo, California,
all as set forth in said Resolution No. 176 of said Commission,
hereinabove quoted in the preamble to this resolution; and
does hereby make the same findings and determinations on its
own part as are made by said Commission in its said Resolution
No. 176.
SECTION 3. That said City Council does hereby ac-
cordingly grant the application of said A. C. McKnight, re-
ferred to in said Resolution No. 176 of said Planning Commis-
sion hereinabove quoted, to locate and operate an aluminum
foundry in an M -1 zone, all in accordance with the conditions
as contemplated and referred to in said resolution of said
Commission.
SECTION 4. Said City Council does hereby establish
as an M -1 use under said Ordinance No. 306, as amended, all
similar aluminum casting operations when determined by the
said Commission to conform to the conditions set forth and re-
ferred to in said above quoted Resolution No. 176 of said Com-
mission.
SECTION 5. That this resolution shall take effect
immediately.
SECTION 6. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this resolution; shall enter the same
in the book of original resolutions of said City; shall make a minute

of the passage and adoption thereof in the records of the pro-
ceedings of said City Council in the minutes of the meeting at
which the same is passed and adopted; shall forward a certified
copy of this resolution to the applicant, A. C. McKnight; a
like certified copy to the said City Planning Commission for
its information and files; and shall furnish a copy thereof to
each of the departments of said City concerned with the en-
forcement of the zoning or land use regulations of said City
for their information in the premises.
Passed, approved and adopted this 20th day of Janu-
ary, 1954•
