CC RESOLUTION 10691)594,x)1 RESOLUTION N0. 1069. A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OT THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO REQUESTING THE FEDERAL POWER COMMISSION TO SUSPEND THE RATE INCREASES REQUESTED BY THE EL PASO NATURAL GAS COM- PANY, AND TO CONDUCT PUBLIC HEARINGS ON SUCH INCREASES IN SOUTH= CALIFORNIA. WHEREAS, the E1 Paso Natural Gas Company has filed an application with the Federal Power Commission whereby said appli- cant seeks substantial increases in the rates charged for the natural gas sold to the Southern California Gas Company and its affiliates, and WHEREAS, the City of E1 Segundo is in the territory ser- ved by the Southern California Gas Company, and WHEREAS, the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California is now hearing an application of said Southern Califor- nia Gas Company for increases in rates charged by said Company for natural gas, part of which increases have been granted by the Cali- fornia Commission on an interim basis, and WHEREAS, the increases in rates sought by the E1 Paso Natural Gas Company, if granted, will have a material effect upon the rates to be charged by said Southern California Gas Company, and WHEREAS, said application before the Federal Power Com- mission will be granted unless said Commission suspends the effec- tive date thereof, and WHEREAS, the oonsum4ka•s of said Southern California Gas Company are entitled to full knowledge regarding said application before the Federal Power Commission, and in fairness to said con- sumers the Federal Power Commission should suspend such rates and enable the gas consumers in this area to have a full hearing upon the merits of said application before the Federal Power Commission at a convenient place in this area, Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUND09 that request be and is hereby made to the Federal Power Commission - 1 - that: 05!J14; 1. Rates sought by the E1 Paso Natural Gas Company in said application before the Federal Power Commission be suspended indefinitely under the rules of said Commission; and 2. That hearings on said application be conducted by the Federal Power Commission at such time as may suit the conven- ience of said Commission at such location within the service area of the Southern California Gas Company as may be convenient to the consumers in said area and said Commission; and 3. That a copy of said application of the E1 Paso Natu- ral Gas Company, together with all exhibits and rate schedules per- taining thereto, be furnished to Clarence A. Winder, Public Utilities Consultant, Room 202, City Hall, Pasadena 1, California, as soon as conveniently possible. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be instructed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Federal Power Commission, Washington, D. C.
