RESOLUTION NO. 851
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AWARDING TO
PITTSBURGit -DES MOINES STEEL COMPANY THE
CONTRACT FOR FURNISHING AND ERECTING AN
ELEVATED STEEL WATER TANK AND TOWER FOR SAID
CITY, UNDER SPECIFICATIONS NO. WW- 460719 OF
SAID CITY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
California, has heretofore in the manner provided by law, duly
and regularly advertised for bids for furnishing and erecting
an elevated steel water tank and tower for said city, under
Specifications No. WW- 460719 of said city;
AND, WHEREAS, at the time for opening and consider-
ing all of said bide, to -wit: the hour of 7:15 o'clock p, m.
on Wednesday, the 28th day of August, 1946, said Council did
publicly open, examine and declare the two bids received;
AND, WhiREAS, at said hour said Council did take
said bids under advisement until this time; and after duly
considering the same has reached its decision in the said
matter;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of
Ll Segundo, California, does resolve, declare and determine
as follows:
SECTION 1. That the bid of Pitteburgh -Des Moines
Steel Company, dated August 28, 1946, which said Council
determines to be substantially as-follows, to -wit:

Gentlemen: Re: Bid on Water Tank

"In response to your Call for Bids on Elevated Water
Tank, we are pleased to submit herewith our formal
proposal covering one 200,000 Gallon Double Ellipsoidal
Elevated Steel Tank and Tower 100-ft. high to overflow
above foundations. This Tank and Tower to be in accord-
ance with your call for bids and Specification WW- 460719.
"In accordance therewith we enclose one copy of Design
Drawing WSE..1, dated 8 -26-46 showing the design of the
rank and Tower we propose to furnish under your specifi.
cations.
"Our price includes accessories and painting as listed
in your Specifications. We mention the following items:
1. 12" Wrought Steel Flanged connected Riser Pipe
2. 12" Flanged Base Elbow at bottom of Riser
3. 12" Expansion Joint connecting Riser Pipe to
bottom of Tank
4. 4 Drain Pipe alongside Riser Pipe extending
- from bottom of Tank to ground level
5. Expansion Joint in Drain Pipe
6. 4" Gate Valve in Drain Pipe
7. 4" Flanged Base Elbow at bottom of Drain Pipe
8. 4" Wrought Steel Overflow Pipe extending from
overflow line to ground level.
9. Ladders as specified
10. Walkway and Railing from Ladder Column to
Expansion Joint.
"As required we enclose bid bond in amount more than 10%
of our quotation.
"California State Use taxes are applicable and are in-
cluded in our price. Our estimated amount is 4250.
"All materials used in this structure will be manufactured
in the United States.
"The Tank and Tower will be fabricated at our Des Moines,
Iowa plant from steel materials rolled by steel mills in
the Chicago district. When the Tank and Tower 1s erected
the work will be performed by men experienced in this class
of work and it is doubtful if any local labor can be
employed.
"If awarded the contract for this Tank and Tower, we will
order the steel from the rolling mills promptly, and we
agree to fabricate, ship and erect the structure complete
ready for service within One Hundred Thirty (130) days
from receipt of the materials at our Des Moines, Iowa shop.

for the
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of the
City of E1 Segundo, California.
Gentlemen:
The undersigned hereby proposes to furnish to the
City of E1 Segundo, California in said city, all labor,
materials, machinery, tools, equipment, and supplies
necessary in order to perform and complete the following
work:
ITEM 1: One 200,000 - gallon Elevated Steel Tank
and Tower, all as contemplated and set forth
in Specifications WW-460719 of the City
of E1 Segundo, California, which are hereby referred
to for a full and detailed description of the work
to be done and are by this reference expressly in-
corporated herein and made a part hereof for all
further particulars with reference to said work;
and all in accordance with the 'Notice to Bidders'
attached hereto; and all at the price bid, as
follows:
Thirty Two Thousand Five Hundred Forty and 00 /100 DOLLARS
($32,540.00) "
be, and the same is hereby accepted at the price set forth in
said bid, which is now on file in the office of the City Clerk
of said city, and which said bid so on file is hereby expressly
referred to and by this reference incorporated herein and made
a part hereof for all further particulars.
SECTION 2. That the bid of Chicago Bridge & Iron
Company, the only other bid received for said water tank, is
hereby rejected, and the City Clerk is hereby authorized to
return the bidder's bond of said unsuccessful bidder.
SECTION 3. That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby
authorized and instructed to execute with and deliver to the
said contractor, its successors or assigns, the contract
awarded hereunder.

SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this resolution; shall cause the
same to be entered in the book of resolutions of the said city,
and shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in
the records of the proceedings of the City Council of said city
In the minutes of the meeting at which the same is passed and
adopted.
Passed, approved and adopted this 11th day of
September, A. D., 1946.

that the foregoing resolution, being Resolution No. 851, was
passed and adopted by the said City Council, approved and signed
by the Mayor of said city and attested by the City Clerk of said
city, all at a regular meeting of the said Council held on the
11th day of September, A. D., 1946, and that the same was so
passed and adopted by the following vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Baker, Peterson, Skelley, Thompson and Mayor
Selby;
