A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING
RESOLUTION N0. 635 OF SAID COUNCIL (THE
SALARY AND COMPENSATION RESOLUTION), PASSED
AND ADOPTED ON THE 23RD DAY OF DECEMBER,
1942, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 5.2
THEREOF RELATING TO INCREASED COMPENSATION
DUE TO INCREASED COSTS OF WAR -TIME LIVING.
The City Council of the City of El Segundo,
California, does hereby resolve, declare and determine as
follows:
SECTION 1, That Section 5.2 of Resolution No. 635
of the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California,
entitled:
"A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, FIXING AND
ESTABLISHING THE COMPENSATION OR PAY OF
VARIOUS MUNICIPAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES
OF SAID CITY, AND REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS
AND ORDERS AND PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS AND
ORDERS IN CONFLICT THEREWITH.",
passed and adopted on the 23rd day of December, 1942, and
which said Section 5.2 was added to said Resolution No. 635
by Resolution No. 677 of said Council, shall be and the same
is hereby amended so that said Section 5.2 shall read as
follows, to -wit:
"SECTION 5.2. In view of the increased costs
of war -time living and effective on and after the
first day of September, 1943, and continuing there-
after until the further order of the City Council,
each officer and employee of the City of E1 Segundo
whose compensation is hereinabove indicated on a
monthly basis (notwithstanding the fact that same

may be payable in semi — monthly or other install-
ments), or whose hours of service for said city in
any capacity or capacities whatsoever, regularly
equal or exceed 160 hours per month or 80 hours per
semi — monthly pay period, shall (except as hereinafter
provided in this section) be entitled to and shall
receive, and there shall be paid to him or her in
addition to the compensation or salary above provided
for such officer or employee, the sum of 010.00 per
month, payable in equal semi — monthly installments, with
his or her regular compensation; and each employee
who is employed on an hourly or daily basis, whose
hours of service are less than 160 hours per month or
80 hours per semi — monthly pay period, shall receive a
sum in addition to the compensation or salary herein..
above provided in this resolution for such employee,
which shall be in proportion to $10.00 per month or
$5.00 per semi — monthly pay period, as the ease may be,
as the number of hours actually worked by him or her
In any month or pay period bears to 160 hours or 80
hours respectively, as the case may be.
"In cases where any officer or employee serves
the city in more than one capacity or classification
the increase in compensation herein granted shall
apply to only one such capacity or classification
(other than an elective office) to be designated by
such employee in writing filed in the office of the
City Clerk of said city. Each such written designation
shall be presented to the City Council at the next
regular meeting of said Council after the filing thereof,
and shall be subject to the approval of said Council.
"The Council reserves the right to withdraw the
compensation granted in this Section 5.2 at any time

hereafter when in the discretion of the City Council
circumstances or conditions require, indicate or
justify such reduction.
"It is provided, however, that the increase in
compensations granted by the provisions of this
Section 5.2 shall not apply to the offices or posi-
tions of City Judge and Fire Chief of said city, as
the City Council, at the time of fixing the present
compensations of said two particular offices or
positions, had in mind that the present compensations
provided for said two particular offices or positions
were and are adequate in view of the limited time
required on the part of the respective incumbents
of said two particular offices or positions to
properly discharge their respective duties."
SECTION 2. That said Resolution No. 635, as amended,
is hereby amended as hereinabove in Section 1 of this re-
solution set forth.
SECTION 3. That this resolution and the provisions
thereof shall relate back to and be effective as of, at and
after midnight on the 31st day of August, 1943, the time at
and the date on which said Section 5.2 of said Resolution
No. 635 became first effective.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this resolution; shall cause the
original of the same to be entered in the book of resolutions
of the said City of El Segundo, and shall make a minute of
the passage and adoption thereof in the records of the pro•
oeedings of the City Council of said pity, in the minutes
of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted.

Clerk of said pity, all at a regular meeting of the said
Council held on the 6th day of Octuh%r, A. D., 1943, and
that the same was so passed and adopted by the following vote:
