A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, CANVASSING
THE RETURNS OF THE ELECTION OF POLICEMEN AND
OTHER EMPLOYEES OF SAID CITY HELD IN SAID
CITY ON THE 17TH DAY OF AUGUST, 1943, WITH
REFERENCE TO PARTICIPATION BY THE CITY OF
EL SEGUNDO IN THE STATE EMPLOYEESI RETIREMENT
SYSTEM, AS CONTEMPLATED UNDER THE PROVISIONS
OF RESOLUTION NO. 674 OF SAID COUNCIL.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
California, did heretofore on the 4th day of August, 1943
adopt Resolution No. 674 of said Council, entitled:
"A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, ORDERING
AND PROVIDING FOR THE HOLDING OF AN
ELECTION BY SECRET BALLOT AT WHICH THE
EMPLOYEES OF SAID CITY MAY EXPRESS THEIR
APPROVAL OR DISAPPROVAL OF THE RETIREMENT
SYSTEM OR PROPOSAL REFERRED TO IN-RESOLU-
TION NO. 672 OF SAID COUNCIL, ENTITLED:
'A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING
ITS INTENTION TO APPROVE CONTRACT PROVIDING
FOR PARTICIPATION IN STATE EMPLOYEES'
RETIREMENT SYSTEM.', PASSED AND ADOPTED ON
THE 21ST DAY OF JULY, 1943.11;
AND, WHEREAS, the election referred to in said
resolution has now been held and the City Council has
canvassed the ballots cast at said election and is now in
a position to declare the results of said election;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of
El Segundo, California, does hereby resolve, declare,
determine and order as follows:
SECTION 1. That said election was duly, regularly
and properly held within said city on the said 17th day of
August, 1943, in all respects as contemplated in said
Resolution No. 674, and in conformity with the provisions

of the State Employees' Retirement Act of the State of
California.
SECTION 2. That there were a total of 16 ballots
cast by Policemen of said city at said election, and that
there were a total of 34 ballots, including one blank ballot,
cast by other employees of said city at said election.
SECTION 3. That of the ballots cast by policemen
of said city at said election 16 ballots or votes were cast
"Yes", or in favor of the City of E1 Segundo ;participating
in said State Employees' Retirement System, and in favor of
the members of the police department of said city participat-
ing therein; and that 0 ballots were cast "No ", and as not
in favor of the City of El Segundo participating in said
State Employees' Retirement System, and as not in favor of
the members of said police department participating therein.
SECTION 4. That of the ballots cast by employees
of said city other than policemen at said election 32 ballots
or votes were cast "Yes", or in favor of the City of El Segundo
participating in said State Employees' Retirement System, and
in favor of the employees of said city other than policemen
participating therein; and that 1 ballot was cast "No ",
or as not in favor of the City of E1 Segundo participating
in said State Employees' Retirement System, and as not in
favor of the employees of said city other than policemen
participating therein; and that one such ballot was cast
blank.
SECTION 5. That the total number of ballots nx
votes cast at said election, both by policemen and other em-
ployees of said city, "Yes ", or in favor of said proposal,
was 48; and that the total number of ballots or votes cast
"No ",or not in favor of said proposal, was 1.
SECTION 6. That the said policemen and other
employees of said city, both as individual groups and
collectively, by their votes cast at said election by a

vote of more than a majority of all ballots cast, both
as individual groups and collectively, approved said
retirement proposal and approved the participation of
said City of El Segundo and of said respective groups and
the members thereof, participating in the State Employees'
Retirement System of the State of California, as contem-
plated under the provisions of the State Employees'
Retirement Act of said State.
SECTION 7. That as a result of said election,
and other proceedings duly had and taken, the said city
and the City Council thereof have now acquired jurisdiction
to execute the necessary contract between said city and the
Board of Administration of the said State Employees' Re-
tirement System, as contemplated under the provisions of
said State Employees' Retirement Act, and which said
contract is referred to in Resolution No. 672 of said
Council, entitled:
"A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING
ITS INTENTION TO APPROVE CONTRACT PROVID-
ING FOR PARTICIPATION IN STATE EMPLOYEES'
RETIREMENT SYSTEM. ",
passed and adopted on the 19th day of July, 1943, and is
attached to said resolution.
SECTION 8. That said Resolution No. 672, and said
Resolution No. 674 and the contract attached thereto, here -
inabove referred to, are on file in the office of the City
Clerk of said city in the City Hall thereof, open to public
inspection, and the same are hereby referred to and by this
reference expressly incorporated herein and made a part
hereof for all further particulars respecting their re-
spective contents.
SECTION 9. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this resolution; shall cause
the same to be entered in the book of resolutions of said

city, and shall make a minute of the passage and adoption
thereof in the records of the proceedings of the City Council
of said city in the minutes of the meeting at which the same
is passed and adopted.
Passed, approved and adopted this lath day of
August, A. D., 1943.

El Segundo, California, do hereby certify that the whole
number of members of the City Council of the said city is
five; that the foregoing resolution, being Resolution No,
676 , was duly passed and adopted by the said City Council,
approved and signed by the Mayor of said City and attested
by the City Clerk of said city, all at a regular meeting of
the said council held on the 18th day of August, A. D., 1943,
and that the same was so passed and adopted by the following
vote:
