A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, GRANTING
TO STANDARD OIL COMPANY OF CALIFORNIA
PERMISSION TO INSTALL A CERTAIN STEEL
SALT WATER INTAKE LINE IN SANTA MONICA
BAY AT EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Council
a communication in words and figures as follows:

Gentlemen:
Application is being made to the United States
Engineer Office for its approval to the installation
of a 46 inch steel salt water intake line in Santa
Monica Bay at El Segundo, California, as shown on the
attached two prints of Drawing 5:,.29719 -0.
"Application will. also be made to the State of
California for this facility.
"Please consider this letter a formal application
to the City of E1 Segundo for approval in so far as its
interests are concerned in this installation. Applica-
tion is being; made in the name of Standard Oil Company
of California, but facilities are being acquired for
Defense Plant Corporation and assignment may be later
made to said Corporation. We would appreciate it if
in your rpproval you would provide for assignment to
said Defense Plant, Corporation when desired.
"The purpose of this installation is to furnish
salt watcr to a proposed butadiene plant that is to be
built on Standard Oil Company of California's El Segundo
Refinery property.
"Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

"On January 27, 1943, above subject, application
was made for the Cit; of E1 Segundo's apnrovel in so
far Qs its interests are concerned to the installation
of a 48 inch steel salt water intake line in Santa
Monica Bay, at El Segundo, as shown on two prints of
Drawing; SE- 29719 -0. Please destroy these two prints
and substitute the enclosed revised prints of this
Drawing;. The revision consists of the removal of
'Note: This facility being aco_uired for the Defense
Plant Corporation.January 21, 1943.' and the substi-
tution of the following 'Note: Application by Standard
Oil Company of California, acting, for and on behalf of
Defense Plant Corporation, January 21, 1943."

AND, PMZREAS, this Council has duly considered
the application made by said Standard Oil Company of
California, in its said communication of January 27, 1943,
as revised by its said communication of February 1, 1943,
and is disposed to grant the permit so applied for in
response to said application and so revised:
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of
El Segundo, California, does hereby resolve, declare,
determine and order as follows:
SECTION 1. That the said communications above
quoted, together with the respective drawings therein
referred to, be placed on file in the office of the City
Clerk of said City for the purposes of identification and
reference, and said communications and said respective
drard ngs attached to the same, are hereby referred to and
by this reference expressly incorporated herein and made
a part hereof.
SECTION 2. That said City Council does hereby
approve the said application of said Standard Oil Company
of California, actin; for and on behalf of the Defense
Plant Corporation of the United States of America, as so
revised, and does hereby grant to said Standard Oil
Company of California, acting for and on behalf of said
Defense Plant Corporation of the United States of America,
Insofar as the interests of said City of E1 Segundo are
concerned, full right, authority and permission to install
a 48 inch steel salt water intak- line in Santa Monica
Bay, at El Segundo, as shown on the revised prints of
drawing SE- 29719 -0, attached to said communication of
February 1, 1943, shove quoted, and on file as aforesaid,

with full authority to maintain and use the same insofar
as said City 1s concerned.
SECTION 3. That said City of El SPgundo does
of this permit
hereby consent to the assignment /by said Standard Oil
Company of California to said Defense Plant Corporation,
at any time, under the right, authority and permission
hereinabove granted, without further consent from said
City or the City Council thereof.
5rCTION 4. That the City Council in granting
this right, authority and permission does hereby find and
determine that the granting thereof will not be adverse
to the interests of said City, but, on the contrary, will
be of benefit to said City and of material assistance to
the United States of America in its all -out war effort.
SECTION 5. That the City Clerk shall issue to
said Standard Oil Company of California, acting; for and
on behalf of said Defense Plant Corporation, a certified
copy of this resolution, and such certified copy so issued
to such permittee shall be and constitute the permit
herein authorized and granted, and said Clerk shall like-
wise deliver such additional certified conies thereof as
said permittee or Defense Plant Corporation may from
time to time recuire.
SECTION 6. That said permittee is requested
to direct a communication to this Council evidencinv its
acceptance of the permit, authority and permission hereby
granted, so that the record of said transaction may be
complete in the City files.
SECTION 7. That the City Clerk shall certify
to the passaCe and adoption of this resolution.; shall

cause the Game to be entered in the book of resolutions
of said City and shall make a minute of the passage and
adoption thereof in the records of the proceedings of the
City Council of said Cite in the minutes cf the meeting
at which the same is passed and adopted.
