A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING
RESOLUTION NO. 589 ENTITLED: "A RESOLUTION
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO$
CALIFORNIA, FIXING AND ESTABLISHING THE
COMPENSATION OR PAY OF VARIOUS MUNICIPAL
OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF SAID CITY, AND
REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS AND ORDERS AND
PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS AND ORDERS IN CONFLICT
THEREWITH. ", PASSED AND ADOPTED ON THE 26TH
DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1941, BY AMENDING SUBDIVISION
"H" OF THE "RULES AND REGULATIONS RELATING TO
HOURS OF SERVICE" SET FORTH IN SECTION 3 THEREOF;
AND BY ADDING A NEW SECTION TO SAID RESOLUTION
TO BE KNOWN AND DESIGNATED AS "SECTION 8.1"
RELATING TO LEAVES OF ABSENCE ON ACCOUNT OF
MILITARY SERVICE.
The City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, Cali-
fornia, does hereby resolve, declare and determine as follows:
SECTION 1. That Subdivision "H" of the "Rules and
Regulations Relating to Hours of Service" set forth in Sec-
tion 3 of Resolution No. 589, entitled:
"A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, FIXING AND ESTAB-
LISHING THE COMPENSATION OR PAY OF VARIOUS
MUNICIPAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF SAID CITY,
AND REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS AND ORDERS AND
PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS AND ORDERS IN CONFLICT
THEREWITH. ",
passed and adopted on the 26th day of November, A. D., 1941,
shall be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as
follows:

"H. Any employee, subject to the rule of ten
days' employment in any two weeks period hereina.bove
referred to, wno is required to put in more time under
the provisions of Subdivision 'G' of these rules and
regulations on an occasion not an emergency result-
ing from war or civilian defense or protective effort,
shall receive for any such over -time, compensation at
one and one -half times his or her regular rate of pay.
It is provided, however, notwithstanding anything con-
tained in these rules and regulations to the contrary,
that any member of the Police or Fire Departments on
regular duty may be called upon to render more than
eight hours' service in any calendar day, and until
the further order of the City Council no additional
compensation shall be paid for any such over -time ser-
vice in such Police and Fire Departments; and provided
further, that any member of the Police or Fire Depart-
ments who may be required to render more than ten days
service in any two weeks period by working a regularly
scheduled shift on an occasion not an emergency result -
inE; from war or civilian defense or protective effort,
shall receive additional compensation for each addi-
tional day so worked at his regular rate of pay."
SECTION 2. That a new section to be known and de-
signated as "Section 8.1" is hereby added to said Resolution
No. 589, and which said new Section 8.1 shall read as follows:
"SECTION 8.1. Notwithstanding any other provi-
sion or provisions of this resolution to the contrary,
that on and after January 1, 1942 all appointive officers
and employees of the City of E1 Segundo who shall have
entered or have been inducted, or who may thereafter enter
or be inducted into the armed forces of the United States of
America during war, or during any national emergency proclaimed

by the President or the Congress of the United
States, or Act of Congress, or executive order or
ruling, and who shall have been honorably discharged
or placed on the inactive or reserve list, or relieved
from such military service with a certificate of
satisfactory service therein, shall be reinstated
in his or her employment for the City of El Segundo
without loss of status, seniority or rating, to the
office or position held by them prior to entry into
such Federal service, or to positions of like senior-
ity and status, unless in the meantime such offices
or positions shall have been abolished; provided,
however, that the application for reinstatement is
made within ninety days after the termination of such
war or national emergency, or within ninety days after
such discharge, release or relief from military service;
and provided further, that such officers or employees
are still qualified to perform the duties of the
positions previously held by them, or of such like
positions."
SECTION 3. That said Resolution No. 589 is hereby
amended as hereinaoove in Sections 1 and 2 of this resolution
set forth.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this resolution; shall cause
the original of the same to be entered in the book of re-
solutions of the said City of E1 Segundo, and shall make a
minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the records of
the proceedings of the City Council of said City, in the min-
utes of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted.
SECTION 5. That this resolution shall take
effect and be in full force and virtue immediately.
Passed, approved and adopted this 14th day of
January, A. D., 1942.

of E1 Segundo, California, do hereby certify that the whole
number of members of the City Council of the said City is
five; that the foregoing resolution, being Resolution No.
599, was passed and adopted by the said City Council, approved
and signed by the Mayor of said City, and attested by the City
Clerk of said City, all at a regular meeting of the said
Council held on the 14th day of January, A. D., 1942, and
that the same was so passed and adopted by the following vote:
