CC RESOLUTION 548r,0 ; ;l RESOLUTION NO. 548 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIF- ORNIA, AWARDING TO IRA E. ESCOBAR THE CONTRACT FOR FURNISHING SAID CITY WITH ONE CERTAIN SEDAN -TYPE AUTO - MOBILE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, has heretofore in the manner provided by law, duly and regularly advertised for bids for furnishing said city with certain motor vehicle equipment for police work; AND, WHEREAS, at the time fixed for opening and considering all of said bids, to -wit, the hour of 7:15 o'clock p. m, on Wednesday, the 11th day of December, 1940, said Council did publicly open, examine and declare all bids received; AND, WHEREAS, at said hour said Council did take all of said bids under advisement until the hour of 7:15 o'clock p. m. on Wednesday, the 18th day of December, A. D., 1940; AND, WHEREAS, said last mentioned hour has now arrived and said Council has reached its decision in the said matter; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California, does resolve, declare and determine as follows: SECTION 1. That the bid of Ira E. Escobar, of El Segundo, California, dated December 11, 1940, which said Council determines to be as follows, to -wit: -1- ,$:Val:: " In reply to your notice in the E1 Segundo Herald inviting bids on one automobile, I wish to submit for your consideration the following; "One new 1941 Ford Deluxe Fordor Sedan, 85 H.P. Engine Equipped with safety Glass throughout and special seat cushion springs for pollee work, painted black and white which colors being identical with the State Highway Patrol Cars, and with lettering "City of E1 Segundo Police" on each front door, "Base Price, $757.16 Add for five 600xl6 six ply tires and five life 41.20 protector tubes, Add for two Lorraine Lights # 21 (#21 larger light than #20 as advertised) mounted on each side of windshield, one red and one white 23.00 Add for two fog lights mounted on front bumpers 6.00 Add for one Bosch Special Police Type Generator capable of 25 amps at 15 miles per hour, suffi- cient capacity for mobile communication transmitter and receiver. 39.75 865. Federal Excise Tax exemption form to be fur- nished by City of E1 Segundo. The above described unit can be delivered within 10 production days of notification of acceptance of bid. Enclosed you will find our cashier's check for $70.00 for 10% of the above bid. "The 95 H.P. Mercury Engine as quoted for only $25.00 additional installed in a Ford Unit is available only for Police Work and cannot be purchased from the Ford Motor Co. for individual use, so that it definitely has many advantages. It's fast pickup capable of 80 miles an hour in second gear in a few seconds has several safety features for pollee work as well as reducing the length of travel necessary to apprehend speeders. Both the 85 H.P. and 95 H.P. are sleeve engines which increase the life of this motor as well as being more economical. "I am enclosing literature and letters from various law enforcement agencies throughout the country which will show some of the fine work this type of unit is doing. "The enclosed engine performance chart shows the actual mechanical efficiency of both our 85 H.P. and 95 H.P. ratings to be a very conservative rating and actually they rate considerably higher than enclosed chart will show. "The privilege of serving you will be greatly appreciated. ", be, and the same is hereby accepted at the price set forth in said bid, which is now on file in the office of the City Clerk -2- of said City, and which said bid so on file is hereby expressly referred to and by this reference incorporated herein and made a part hereof. SECTION 2. That the bid of Haworth -Jones Chevrolet Co., being the only other bid received for said automobile, is hereby rejected, and the City Clerk is hereby authorized and instructed to return the certified check of said unsuccessful bidder. SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall prepare copies of this resolution, after the passage and adoption thereof, and shall affix to such copies at the end thereof, after the Clerk's Certificate, forms for the approval of the successful bidder and on the part of the said City, and such copies of this resolution, so approved and accepted by the successful bidder and by and on behalf of said City, shall constitute the contract for furnishing to said City the said motor equipment for the use of said City, pursuant to the award hereinabove made, and the Mayor of the City of El Segundo is hereby authorized, on behalf of said City, to affix the approval and acceptance of said City to such con- tract, and said City Clerk is hereby authorized and instructed to attest the same on behalf of said City and to affix the seal of said City thereto. SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution; shall cause the original of the same to be entered in the book of resolutions of the said City of E1 Segundo, and shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the records of the proceedings of the City Council of said City, in the minutes of the meeting at which the same is passed and adopted. -3- Passed, approved and adopted this 18th day of December, A.
