A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, FINDING
AND DETERMINING THAT THE IMPROVEMENT OF
A CERTAIN PORTION OF CENTER STREET, WITHIN
SAID CITY, IS OF GENERAL COUNTY INTEREST
AND THAT COUNTY AID SHOULD BE EXTENDED
THEREFOR.
The City Council of the City of E1 Segundo,
California, does hereby resolve, declare and determine
as follows:
FIRST: That Center Street in the City of El
Segundo, California, is a north -south secondary street, be-
ginning in Imperial Highway on the north and terminating
in E1 Segundo Boulevard on the south, within said city,
which said Imperial Highway and E1 Segundo Boulevard are
major arteries to and from El Segundo; and that said
Center Street is also intersected by a third major artery
to and from said city, to -wit: Grand Avenue.
SECOND: That said El Segundo Boulevard, Imperial
Highway and Grand Avenue are being used by large numbers
of residents of Los Angeles County generally, not residents
of said City, and large numbers of such residents of said
County generally have occasion to use, and do use, said
Center Street above referred to, as a north -south secondary
street connecting said three major arteries above referred
to, and in gaining ingress and egress to and from the
northeasterly portion of said City of E1 Segundo, which
neoessitates the improvement hereinafter referred to and
necessitates the doing of the work and the Tarnishing of
the labor hereinafter indicated.

THIRD: That the nearest improved north -south
streets to the seat and west of said Center street are
approximately one -half mile distant in each direction.
FOURTH: That said Center Street at its inter-
section with Pine Avenue and the right -of -way and tracks
of the Pacific Electric Railway Company, and for a dis-
tam a of 300 feet extending along said Center Street
from said intersection in a northerly direction, is in
a dangerous and unsafe condition, and as same now exists
constitutes a menace to the public using the same, which
said condition should be corrected at the earliest
possible moment.
FIFTH: That it is proposed to correct said
condition by improving said portion of said Center Street,
to -wit, the portion thereof at and including its inter-
section with Pine Avenue and the right -of -way and tracks
of the Pacific Electric Railway Company, and for a dis-
tance of 300 feet northerly of said intersection, by
placing an embankment of 3,400 cubic yards of earthwork,
thus lengthening the vertical curve which now exists at
said location, and reducing the approach grade from a
fourteen per cent grade to an eight per cent grade doing
the necessary grading and leveling in order to accomplish
this result, end thereupon to further improve said portion
by paving the same with an oil macadam pavement on com-
pletion of such grading and leveling.
SIXTH: That said City of E1 Segundo is without
available funds for the purpose of providing the necessary
labor to construct and complete said proposed improvement
of said portion of said Center Street, as hereinabove set
forth, and the City Council of said City hereby requests
financial assistance from the County of Los Angeles,

California, to the extent of furnishing 566 man -days of
labor for the grading and leveling of said portion of
said Center Street, and for the construction and comple-
tion of said above mentioned improvement, at the rate
of :3.20 par day.
SEVENTH: That the estimated costs of said
proposed work or improvement, are as follows, to-wit:

NINTH: That the City Engineer of the City
of El Segundo, California, shall have immediate charge
and sups rvis ion of the sai d we rk and improvement, and
shall furnish to the Bureau of County Welfare (Engineering
Division) of the County of Los Angeles, California, such
information and supplemental data, if any, as said bureau
may desire with reference to the work contemplated under
the project hereinabove referred to.
TENTH: That the City Treasurer of said City,
after such examination of the municipal fineness and
accounts of said City, as may be necessary in order to
enable her properly so to do, is hereby requested to pre-
pare in duplicate a certificate to the effect that the
estimated expenses for such supervision, tools and mater-
ials, to be furnished by Said City in connection with the
said job or project, to -wit, the sum of 8'1159.750 is
actually at the time of the adoption of this resolution
available in the general fund of said City for the payment
of the costs and expenses of such supervision, tools,
equipment and materials.
ELEVENTH: That the City 91erk of said City
is hereby authorized and instructed to prepare two certi-
fied copies of this resolution and cause the same to be
transmitted, together with the duplicate certificates of
the City Treasurer, hereinabove referred to, to the office
of the Bureau of County Welfare (Engineering Division)
of said County of LOS Angeles, California.
That the City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this resolution; shall cause the
same to be entered in the book of resolutions of the City
Council of the City of E1 Segundo, California, and shall
make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the

records of the proceedings of the City Council of said
City, in the minutes of the meeting at vhich the same
is passed and adopted.

at a regular meeting of the said Council held on the
16th day of August, 1933, and that the same was so passed
and adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Krimmel, Gerow, Love and Mayor Binder;
Noes: Councilmen None.
