CC RESOLUTION 53RESOLUTION NO. 53 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUS- TEES OF THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING SPECIFICATIONS NOS. 9 and 10 OF SAID CITY FOR SEPTIC TANKS AND CESSPOOLS, RESPECTIVELY. The Board of Trustees of the City of E1 Segundo, California, do resolve, declare and determine as follows: SECTION 1. That the following specifications, to be known as Specifications No. 9, for the construction of septic tanks in the City of E1 Segundo, California, be, and the same are hereby adopted, to -wit: SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF BRICK SEPTIC TANKS THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA. 1. NATURE OF WORK: The contractor shall, for the contract price, furnish all the material and all tools and do all the work prescribed in these spec- ifications and shown on Drawing B223416, on file in the office of the City Engineer of the City of E1 Segundo, California; shall provide all precautionary measures necessary 1 to the protection of person and property, and shall put septic tank in complete working order to the satisfaction of the City Engineere 20 DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS: The drawings, with such writings, inter - lineations and details as may be upon them, shall be considered as part of and illustra- tions to, these specifications. These specifications are intended to supplement Drawings B223416, on file in the office of the City Engineer of the City of El Segundo, California, the two being consid- ered cooperative, and therefore it will not be the province of these specifications to mention any portion of the construction which the drawing is competent to explain, and such omissions will not relieve the Contractor from carrying out such portions indicated only on the drawings, and should items be required by the specifications not indicated on the drawings, they are to be supplied, even if of such nature that they could have been indicated thereon. The decision of the City Engineer as to the proper interpretation of the drawings and specifications shall be final. 3. EXCAVATION: All excavation is to be done by the Contractor in accordance with the stakes set by the City Engineer, and all excavated P surplus earth is to be wasted as directed by said Engineer. 4. BRICKWORK: The bricks shall be hard burned newer brick of the best quality for the purpose for which they are intended, uniform in quality, sound, free from lime and cracks, whole and with edges fall and square, and of standard dimensions, viz: 8" x 4" x 2+ ". The mortar shall be made by carefully measuring and thoroughly incorporating one part of high grade Portland Cement with one gnd one -half parts of clean sharp sand, and mixed with clean water to the proper consistency; and to each and every cubic yard of this mortar shall be added one barrel of slacked lime; and this mortar shall be used while fresh. b. GENERAL: All work under the foregoing specif- ications must be done in a neat and work- manlike manner and to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. "Contractor ", as herein used, refers to the party contracting with the City of E1 Segundo, California, for the perform - anoe of the above work, or the duly author- ized representative of such party. "City Engineer ", as herein used, refers to the City Engineer of the City 7 e rl,%- of E1 Segundo, California, or his author- ized deputy, agent or inspector. Bidders must examine and judge for themselves as to the location of the pro- posed work, the nature of the excavation to be made, and the work to be done. SECTION 2. That the following specifications, to be known as Specifications No. 10, for the construction of cesspools in the City of E1 Segundo, California, be, and the same are hereby adopted, to -wit: SPECIFICATIONS CONSTRUCTION OF BRICK CESSPOOLS AND 6" CAST IRON SOIL PIPE OVERFLOW IN THE CITY OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA. 1- NATURE OF WORK: The contractor shall, for the contract price, furnish all the material and all tools and do all the work prescribed in these spec- ifioations and shown on Drawing A225417o on file in the office of the City Engineer of the City of E1 Segundo, California; shall provide all precautionary measures necessary to the protection of person and property, and 4 shall put cesspool in complete working order to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. 2. The mortar shall be made by carefully measuring and thoroughly incorporating one part of high grade Portland Cement with one and one -half parts of olesa sharp sand, and mixed with clean water to the proper consistency; and to each and every cubic yard of this mortar shall be added one barrel of slacked lime; and this mortar shall be used while fresh. 5. PIPE: The 6" cast iron soil pipe joints shall lack one- quarter of an inch of being driven full into bells, and gaskets of clean, sound hemp yarn, braided or twisted and tightly driven, shall be used to pack the joints. The lead shall be pure soft lead of the best quality, suitable for caulking, and securing a tight and permanent joint. Pipe is to be laid on a firm bed, and in perfect conformity with the line and grades given by the City RAgineer, aad 2 ^r shall not want of uniformity of surface on the interior of the pipe. 6.
