Sandra Jacobs, representing the Chamber of Commerce; stated she would like to speak on item A -1 at the proper time. CLOSED SESSION - 7:05 P.M. The City Council moved into a closed session pursuant to applicable law, including the Brown Act (Government Code Sec. 54950, et seg.) for the purposes of conferring with the City Attorney on potential and /or existing litigation and /or discussing personnel matters. CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - EXISTING LITIGATION - Gov't Code 54956.9 (a) 1. City of Los Angeles v. City of Ell Segundo, Case No BC 034185 CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - ANTICIPATED LITIGATION a) Significant exposure to litigation pursuant to Gov't Code 54956.9; 2 potential cases (no further public statement is required at this time); b) Initiation of litigation pursuant to Gov't Code 54956.9(c); 2 matters RECONVENED IN OPEN SESSION 9:03 P.M. City Manager Jim Morrison stated he had an item concerning Hughes that arose after the posting of the agenda that he wished to discuss. City Attorney Lee Dolley stated that Councilman Robbins should not partici- pate in the motion to discuss this item or on the subsequent discussion that may follow. MOVED by Councilwoman Friedkin, SECONDED by Councilman Switz to an urgency item that arose after the posting of the agenda. MOTION PASSED BY THE FOLLOWING VOICE 'DOTE. AYES: MAYOR JACOBSON, MAYOR PROTEM WESTON' COUNCILMAN SWITZ, AND COUNCILWOMAN FRIEDKIN. NOES; NONE. NOT - PARTICIPATING: COUNCILMAN ROBBINS. 4/0/1 City Manager Jim Morrison stated that Hughes has contacted the City with their short and long term business plans. They would like to give the City an opportunity, with the Bussiness Retention program, to retain them in El Segundo. Mr. Morrison further stated that he feels the Citiy's current program would be beneficial to Hughes, and that the plan is competitive. Council made no comments or discussion. City Manager is to proceed with discussions with Hughes. A. SPECIAL ORDERS OF BUSINESS - 1. Discussion and possible action relating to ordinance allowing El Segundo to give transient occupancy tax credits to Summerfield Suites Hotel and the Citizens Referendum on that ordinance At 9:15 P.M.
