PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Mayor Pro Tem Wise ROLL CALL: Mayor Jacobson - Present Mayor Pro Tem Wise - Present Councilman West - Present Councilman Switz - Present Councilman Robbins - Present PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS - (City Business Only - 5 Minutes Limit) Two individuals addressed the Council: 1. Sandy Jacobs 543 Virginia: applauded the City Council and the City for taking the right steps to help small business in El Segundo. She stated it is time to rebuild E1 Segundo, east of Sepulveda business has a direct reflection on the Downtown and other areas. What is currently being done by volunteers should be expanded with a paid position. 2. Harlen Davis 362 Virginia St.: Stated he concurs with Ms. Jacobs statements. The Business Attraction and Retention Committee has begun helping, and hopes they continue the good work. A. SPECIAL ORDERS OF BUSINESS - 1. Council Workshop on Business Retention and Attraction. Co- Chairman Mary Steiner and Karen Ackland gave a brief overview of the workshop and introduced the Panelists: Dennis Hunt, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Stoorza Aieguas and Metzger. Jack Kyser, Chief Economist and Director of Program Research & Development, Economic Development Corporation. Michael L. Condon, Vice President, The Seeley Company. John O'Sullivan, Manager of the Southern California Strategic Planning Group, Municipal Resource Consultants (MRC). 1. Dennis Hunt: Statewide Business Retention /Attraction policy issues California Business Roundtable is addressing with the Governor. 2. Jack Kyser: Impact of business loss on economy of Los Angeles County; what the Economic Development Corporation and Cities are doing to retain and attract business; local investment required; early models of success. 3. Michael L. Condon: What local city governments must do to attract new business to the South Bay; a commercial realty perspective. 4. John O'Sullivan: The key role of the City Manager and city department heads in retaining and attracting business. During the discussion the City Council and members of the audience questioned and commented on the topics of discussion. Mayor Pro Tem Wise Left at 8:05 P.M.
