1983 MAY 17 CC MINMINUTES OF ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF THE EL SEGUNDO CITY COUNCIL
May 17, 1983
I. CALL TO ORDER
The E1 Segundo City Council convened in an adjourned regular session
on the above date at 6:30 o'clock p.m., in the Council Chamber of the
E1 Segundo City Hall. The Clerk reported that a NOTICE OF ADJOURNMENT
had been posted as required by law and that a Declaration of Posting
was in the City Clerk's Office.
II. ROLL CALL: Present: Council Members Armstrong, Johnson,
Siadek, Synadinos and Mayor Bue
Absent: Council Members None
III. The Mayor announced that the term of office of one Recreation and
Parks Commissioner expired on May 15, 1983; that one of the applicants
for this appointment, Mr. Walter Hawk, could not attend the meeting
scheduled for interviewing the applicants on May 10, 1983, and therefore,
this time had been scheduled for that purpose.
At the hour of 6:32 o'clock p.m., the Council moved to the West Confer-
ence Room where Mr. Hawk was interviewed.
Mr. Hawk advised he had been involved with the Senior Citizen's organ-
ization for many years and thought a representative from the seniors
would be an asset on the commission.
At the hour of 6:45 o'clock p.m., the Council returned to the Council
Chamber, all members being present. The attributes of the applicants
were discussed, concluding that the applicants were excellent candidates
and that they would be considered for appointments to the various com-
mittees that serve to advise the staff and Council.
Thereafter, motion was made by Councilman Siadek, seconded by Mayor Bue,
that incumbent Dorothy Doukakis be appointed to serve a 4 -year term on
the Recreation and Parks Commission, said term to expire May 14, 1986.
Motion carried by unanimous vote.
The Council discussed limiting service of Council - appointed commissioners
to no more than two terms and agreed this should be listed on a future
Council agenda for action.
The Mayor reminded the Council that Carl Jacobson's term on the Planning
Commission would expire June 30, 1983; that he had taken office in
November, filling the unexpired term of Peter Charland. Asked if the
Council would re- appoint or consider following the established policy
of advertising and scheduling interviews for applicants.
It was the consensus of the Council that since a policy had been set,
it should be followed.
No further business appearing to come before the Council at this session,
the Mayor declared the meeting adjourned, the hour of adjournment being
6 :55 o'clock p.m.
APPROVED:
William . Bue, Mayor
Respectfully submitted,
C' .LZ/riLoZt
