1972 JUN 19 CC MINX El Segundo, California June 19, 1972 An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of El Segundo, California, was held in the Council Chamber of the City Hall of said City on the above date. The Clerk reported that a Notice of Adjourn- ment had been posted as required by law and that affidavit of posting was in her file. Prior to calling the meeting to order, those present joined in pledging allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. The meeting was then called to order by E. L. Balmer, Mayor, the hour being 7:00 o'clock p.m. ROLL CALL Councilmen Present: McGill, Morgan, Nagel, Stephens and Mayor Balmer; Councilmen Absent: None. Mrs. C. M. Pleggenkuhle, Jr. Introduced Mrs. Michael Kerr and discussed the circumstances of Captain Kerr's capture and confinement as a prisoner of war. Mayor Balmer, on behalf of the City, then presented Mrs. Kerr with a copy of a proclamation adopting Captain Kerr as one of the City's official prisoners of war. Mrs. Kerr then presented prisoner of war bracelets in Captain Kerr's name to the members of the Council and expressed her appreciation for their support. SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS 1. The Mayor announced that this was the time and place heretofore fixed for the public hearing on the City's budget for the 1972 -73 Fiscal Year. At the hour of 9 :30 o'clock p.m., the Council reconvened, all members being present and answering roll call. Discussion of the proposed budget for the 1972 -73 fiscal year continued at this time. After all persons who wished to speak were given the opportunity to do so, the Mayor declared the public hearing closed. After discussion, motion was made by Councilman Stephens, seconded by Councilman McGill that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the neces- sary ordinance and resolution for adoption of the budget. City Manager Jones presented a request for permission to conduct a closed promotional examination for the position of Street Sweeper Operator on June 22, 1972. Motion was made by Councilman McGill, seconded by Councilman Nagel that the above request be granted. Motion carried. At the hour of 1:00 o'clock a. m., the Council recessed to the Mayor's Office for an Executive Session. At the hour of 1 :20 o'clock a. m. , the Council reconvened, all members being present and answering roll call. No other business appearing to come before the Council at this session, motion was made by Councilman Nagel, seconded by Councilman McGill that the meeting adjourn, the hour of adjournment being 1:25 o'clock a. rn.
